Richmond-based veteran DJ Aakmael was born to a trombonist father and a singer mother, which inevitably led him grow up in a jazz-and-funk-led environment. At the age of 16, he got his start behind the decks, playing everything from hip-hop and RnB to jazz and reggae at house parties and school jams, before getting into house thanks to Inner City's huge tune 'Big Fun'. On a mission to steadily educate the ears of his audience, he could have easily been part of those Founding Fathers of House who have devoted their life to producing and curating some of the best house vibes to date. Aak is mainly known for producing underground hard-hitting deep and raw house, assuredly filled with a touch of melancholy and nostalgia. Today, he no longer has anything to prove as his track record is as long as your arm; he first started to release records in the early 2000s on top dance labels like Note Grooves or Axe on Wax, before creating his own imprint UnXpozd Entertainment. Besides, he has been regularly gracing worldwide dance floors such as ://about:blank (Berlin), Fáklya Klub (Budapest) or Output (NY) alongside house geniuses including Patrice Scott or Kai Alcé.

Living up to his reputation, Aak has been extremely picky when putting his tracks together for this mix in order to uphold his standards. Today, he is delivering mellow but serious house grooves from Demuir, Local Options or Satoshi Tomiie. This could definitely be your new summer chill soundtrack!

Cacophony is by definition a collision of multiple sounds in discordance. Sounds that shouldn't go together basically. Bogotá, Colombia’s Felipe Gordon does this, but in euphony(bringing pleasure to ones ear)! Spreading himself blissfully across jazzy, disco, funky and soulful elements he pours this concoction into his cluby productions and sets which has now given him international recognition. Having put out forty plus 12" releases and an album since 2014, including his brilliant "Timeless EP" on our Karakul subsidiary, he has found himself on labels like Shall Not Fade, Razor'N'Tape, Toytonics and some of the most long standing greats more recently like Nervous records. For Phonica mix 104 Felipe walks us through what for him brings musicality into electronic music, what live elements bring humanity into our dance floors. Nicola Loporchio started producing dissonant house grooves in 2009, immediately attracting the attention of some of the best electronic music outputs in the underground scene. As a Dj, Nico Lahs touched base in some of the most prestigious clubs around the world, delivering DJ sets spanning through raw and authentic, US-style deep house to the dance floors at Cable, Club der Visionaere, KaterHolzig, Rex Club, Sankeys, and Tresor.

With his high quality remixes, cosmic alias, and impressive club cuts on a host of stellar labels, Nico Lahs is proving himself to be an innovative force in the Italian house landscape.

To have Marcellus Pittman as our guest for a RH store mix with records he has never heard before was pretty electrifying. The living legend from Detroit took the opportunity to have a proper browse in the shop and see where it would go…  

As a production artist and selector, Pittman has helped to define an integral part of the Detroit sound. When other children were playing combat with G.I. Joe action figures in the early 80’s, Detroit native Marcellus “Malik” Pittman was playing his radio at maximum volume, listening to the sounds of “the Wizzard” and the “Electrifying Mojo”, in addition to the jazz outputs of Rosetta Hines.

In 1993, Malik released his initial work of production with local Hip-Hop collective “Home Grown”. Shortly thereafter, he released “Essential Selections, Vol. 1” on the Sound Signature label, headed by Theo Parrish. In 1998, Malik forged a working relationship with Rick Wilhite, Theo Parrish and Kenny “Moodymann” Dixon, collectively known as the 3 Chairs. Pittman is currently heading his own label, Unirhythm, which will release his upcoming projects.
