The Marathon was a roller skating rink annex dance venue in the Dutch city of The Hague, which was set up in the late 1940s by the Ooms family at the end of the De Savornin Lohmanlaan, and at the foot and behind the dunes of The Hague. In The Hague, for example, there was a roller skate hockey rink in the Zuiderpark and one at the end of the Leyweg where the Q65 often performed (the Eekhoorn).

The Golden Earrings often performed in the Marathon. The Marathon was their home base. In 1972 the Marathon moved to the Wijndaelerweg (Ockenburg). There it kept the name Marathon until the second half of the nineties. Then the then owner (Frans Winterswijk) stopped it. It was briefly called Dance Parliament.

Not long after Winterswijk rented it out to the previous owners of discotheque Asta, Winodj and Kevin. They renovated the tent and called it Intenz. When this also came to an end, Coen Bom and Rob Velders (the other operators of the Asta) stepped in. Under the name '«O»', the discotheque continued as a dance club on the Wijndaelerweg, although many continued to describe the '«O»' as "the former Marathon" for many years.

After the '«O»', the existence of the disco on the Wijndaelerweg became somewhat unclear. As Celebration Studios, it became more of a party rental business. In 2005, the property was renamed Fantasy Dance Theater. After the bankruptcy in 2006, there were two attempts to squat the building. Since 3 January 2009, the building has been inhabited by Rotterdam squatters. The building was demolished in April/May 2016.

Hello and welcome back to The Poeticast! 

We have cause for celebration this week as we have reached a milestone 300 shows!

The Poeticast was created back in 2011 with the aim of a regular Techno Podcast showcasing fresh music and fresh and established talent. At the time there weren't many regular Techno Podcasts available so The Poeticast was pretty popular from the moment of inception and the reason we are still popular today and we've hit #300!

To help us celebrate with Episode 300 we decided to invite a long standing Friend of ours to deliver a 2 hour extended show!

Rydel joined us for Episode 60 in the series and has remained a supporter of us ever since, so it felt perfect to invite him back and what a show he has produced!


In a career spanning well over a decade, Rydel has experience with almost every style of electronic dance music. His outstanding mixing skills impress even the most demanding audience and he always delivers sets tuned to the maximum enjoyment of the people in front of him.

Playing in more than 15 different countries around the world including Spain, Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, Mexico, Italy, Colombia, Poland, the Netherlands and Norway, he has shared the stage with DJ's like Tiësto, Ian Carey, Redhead, James Zabiela, Misjah, Filterheadz and played on international festivals with artists like Moby, Massive Attack, N.E.R.D., Kraftwerk and many others.
Being an active producer as well, Rydel is getting strong support from some of the major players in the scene. While continuing to release on several international labels he's now primarily situated at Neptuun City and Sub Cult, where he is free to expand his experience in the music industry beyond the range of just DJ and artist.

His productions have been supported by PHNTM, Umek, Chris Lake, Cristian Varela, Pedro Delgardo, Bryan Cox, DJ Rush, D.O.N.S., Thermo, Eddie Halliwell, David Moleon, Eric Sneo, Christian Cambas, Andy Moor, Boriqua Tribez, Sergio Fernandez, Hertz, Stonebridge, Reaky, Beltek, Fer BR, Dataminions, Alexey Kotlyar, Beatacue, Raul Mezcolanza, Paulo Tella and Mike Humphries, amongst others.
