Beginnings

In February 1962 the “Belaires” started out being known by the bands original name “The Outsiders”. The founder members of the band were Noel Browne (lead) Ian Strachan (drums and band leader), Lawrence James (rhythm) and Butch Bennett Bass. In the first few months of the bands existence Ronnie Pienaar and Bonny Bennett shared vocals. However, the band at the time played mainly instrumentals at basing themselves on the Shadows. 

In the very early days of the bands existence Noel Browne played lead on a home made electric guitar which he made himself. He, as was Lawrence James and Butch Bennett very pleased with themselves when they were able to go out and purchase from “Radio Limited” their brand new Fenders. – Lead, Fender Stratocaster, Rhythm, Fender Esquire and a Fender Precision Bass. 

Ian Strachan had to wait a little longer before being able to replace his old second hand Premier drum set with a brand new (Champaign in colour) Gretsch drum set with Zylgin cymbals, Ian, at the time was very proud to be the owner of such a fine drum set.

In June 1962, Angus Kennedy, Joined the band as vocalist. Having done a brief stint earlier that year during his Air Force military service in Gwelo where he sung with the initial Mike Clark band known as “The Spectors”.

Bands Name Change

Early in 1963 the Band changed its name from the “Outsiders” to the “Belaires” after making an agreement with the manufacturers of “Belaire” shirts for the promotion of their shirts at the bands numerous rock sessions. 

From this time on the Belaires really took off playing at private parties, weddings, rock sessions, hotel, night/social clubs, cinema, radio and TV engagements..

There were many places and venues to name that the Belaires played at, some being Salisbury, Umtali, Que Que, Gatooma, and Gwelo civic halls. Bulawayo – Jewish Guild Hall.

I make music using Udio AI. I do electronic instrumentals in various subgenres, such as synthwave, chillwave, chillsynth, synthpop, and EDM. A lot of my songs tend to have dynamic highs and lows, but sometimes they're totally chilled out.
