"Vinyl Lover" is a concept Hard Rock Guitar Instrumental with a lot of moody changes and a nice solid groove. This is built on 3 guitar hooks and a shred monster guitar solo right down the middle. But the whole song was recorded with what we call a Vinyl haze. Meaning we added some warmth to it to simulate Vinyl, which most people agree is still the best way to experience music of any kind.

This song was inspired by a Twitter comment that used the phrase "Vinyl Lover". Obviously that tweet was referencing records, but the phrase "Vinyl Lover" has a lot of depth to it. I teach a class at a local school for the arts here in Los Angeles called "Creative concepts in songwriting". In that class one of the things we often do is simply try to draw inspiration from things happening around us. We sometimes go on outings to Venice beach and just observe people and artwork. These seemingly simple things can really light a spark in your creativity. In the case of "Vinyl Lover", I can probably apply that phrase in some way to a few people and relationships from my past. I certainly can come up with a song-scape to wrap around that theme. In the case of this song, that sound-scape is one of flexibility. An always changing environment with a steady under-flow to it. Now 100 different people might come up with 100 different song-scapes for "Vinyl Lover", but that's of no importance, all that matters is what YOU come up with. We'll do a lesson on this song at http://JFRocks.com in the near future, and we'll explore that idea a bit more deeply.

Poverty of Ideals is a 3 Piece Instrumental Progressive Metal band hailing from the North of Johannesburg, South Africa.

Formed in 2009, Poverty of Ideals started from a desire to play something more, something technically challenging yet still keeping to a sound that can be enjoyed by everyone, regardless of genre.

All 3 members started music at a very young age, dedicating countless hours to perfecting their arts. Kyle Williams on Drums, Craig Goudge on Guitars and Matthew Bairstow on Bass all Studied at COPA(Campus of Performing Arts), receiving above average grades for their respective instruments, as well as playing for many well-known South African metal bands such as Unwritten Friday, Kill The Messenger, Hell To Pay, Pestroy and Truth and Its Burden.

They take a completely unique look on the “Progressive metal” genre, aiming to fuse technically syncopated grooves with expansive melodic sections, while shying away from the generic stereotypes often associated with the genre. Not only influenced by Metal, Poverty of Ideals draws influence from a wide spectrum of genres including Jazz, Blues, Rock and Fusion.

Poverty of Ideals have strong DIY ethics, releasing their 2010 self-titled EP independently and available for free. Playing small shows as well as nationwide tours has been the name of the game for the past two years, now Poverty of Ideals looks to take their unique blend of Metal and Prog. over to an International stage.

Recently Signing to Agent Indie Records, Poverty of Ideals plans to release their debut album late 2013, followed by a nationwide tour, with the help of some amazing people.
