Following on from the first two volumes, Viper are proud to present the next in what has quickly become a favourite series with Future Fire Vol. 3. Celebrating the wide range of talent from across the globe, Future Fire aims to shine a much deserved spotlight on some of the newer names in Drum & Bass – something that has been at the core of the label since day one. Hand selected by Futurebound, Vol. 3 features four brand new tracks from Sly Chaos, tunnl vision, GMG, and Lateral.

Sly Chaos teams up with vocalist NÜ on “Right Now”, a glimmering number with infectious lyrics that will sweep you off your feet. Drawing the listener in with her powerful voice, NÜ’s serenade takes center stage – up until the drop, that is. Sly Chaos delivers a hearty dose of resounding basslines for a track that you might not have expected to be from the mind of a newcomer – both Sly Chaos and NÜ do the New Zealand scene proud with this one!

Next up, tunnl vision delivers something on the funkier side of Drum & Bass, with high energy right from the start. Building in loudness and complexity, tunnl vision sets his sights on decimating audiences with the drop, interlaced with cyber-dystopian vibes that is classic Viper through and through. Polished and original, tunnl vision has more than impressed with their “Runnin” debut.

GMG’s contribution falls more on the elegant side of the genre - “Light of Destiny” paints a serene picture with cinematic authority, exuding plenty of grace and charm as it builds. As the track progresses, however, it transforms into something different entirely, replacing the fantasy elements with something more science fiction based, while never losing its initial cinematic quality. Quirky and fast-paced, “Light of Destiny” will leave you wanting more from GMG.

Lateral delivers classic dancefloor energy with a nostalgic twist, masterfully combining familiar elements of the genre into something fresh and exciting. Full of adrenaline, “Run The Town” is a futuristic racing soundtrack that will once again leave listeners impressed despite potentially never having heard of the producer behind it.

Deep in solitary lockdown, Hamilton has been crafting these next cuts with the meticulous precision. These two tracks present the perfect backdrop for his comeback, presenting him as a veteran artist who effortlessly combines the famed 90s vibe with contemporary production. 

And after the ongoing success of his Schema EP, as well as the huge reception to his release ‘Fire/Be There’, this is a welcome return. 

With pent up aggression and pounding breaks, ‘Feel the Fury’ rolls out first ominously. Cracking high hats and quick-fire percussion adds a layering that helps carry the record’s forward motion. Alongside a bassline that coils, and then lashes out over a plunging drop, you’re thrown between the snap, crack and whip of a hugely intricate composition. Hamilton is back… And he’s here to re-educate you with his unfaltering skillset. 

On the flipside, ‘Track 8’ is an innovative slice of drum & bass which is both fun and drivingly relentless. Bouncing subs, coupled by distorted synths take you through elevated note patterns of gradually building, musical imagery. It’s a steppy riddim, one which doesn’t completely crash on impact but instead is creeping in its intensity. It’s Hamilton at his most diverse, yet again proving the versatility in his craftwork.

With another stunning delivery from Hamilton, 2015 is setting a precedent. One which the producer is sure to ride out into the future.

Being a production line of carefully crafted composition with a meticulous production standard, Calyx & Teebee have delivered yet again. And after dominating the Beatport Top 100 with their most recent single ‘A Day That Never Comes / Snakes & Ladders’, they won’t be applying the brakes anytime soon, especially in the lead up to their greatly anticipated second album on the Ram imprint.

Back on vocal duties, Calyx demonstrates the pair’s multi-dimensional approach to beat making. With plucky percussion relaying you through bouncing subs and a drivingly solid bassline, it defines their vast repertoire of style. They’re not scared to dip into unfamiliar territories, with Calyx’s cool vocals sitting on top of lulling guitar rhythms to provide the first part of a diverse and brilliantly crafted record. 

‘Sawn Off’ rolls out next; it’s a grittier track than its predecessor, with a conundrum of hi-hats and aggressive drum patterns. Pounding pads take you towards a colossal break, heighten by the effect of a cleverly placed sample. The track ricochets throughout, not losing momentum or impact, with an intricately weaved structure, one only achievable by a team who’ve been running the game for decades.  

With an album laying just out of reach, each single is bringing us closer and closer to the inevitable. All four tracks prove they’re still a formidable force to be reckoned with; this LP will only emphasise that fact.
