Five renowned names enter the monastery bearing a remix each to propel its grandeur to further heights. LEVELA brings the boisterous basslines of his trademark jump-up style, bouncing to and fro on his emblematic remix. SKANTIA then shows of his style of roaring basslines developed over a series of recent releases on RAM Records that do much to match the monstrous nature of the Snake Monastery’s guardians. Following this comes the high speed percussive flurry of GRIDLOK’s technical style, expertly forged over the span of his 20 year career and honed to an evermore exacting edge. Rumours of the infernal mechanism were rife amongst the population, that somewhere deep in the sublevels of the city it waited with the eternal patience that belongs only to machines. It was said that those people whom the system had broken, whose minds had snapped – ejecting them from the social architecture… were first incarcerated, analyzed and then taken to it to be erased completely. He was about to find out the truth of this, dragged from his metallic cell by those machine claws, his arms bound tightly across his chest and vocal chords paralyzed. He wanted to scream, terror engulfing him and winding around his vertebrae, giving birth to a black hole within the pit of his stomach... but all that emerged was a whimper of despair. It was registered by the synthetic mind and catalogued in its vast archive of variations of this moment - its casual analysis of this journey to death. The chamber was incomprehensibly vast… and it was there waiting, reaching with its threatening appendages from the shadows, its diabolical jaws enshrouded in the dull green light of a vast viewing screen displaying the symbol of the architect. The teeth started that relentless slicing, the very ground trembling through the power of its mighty workings, the mechanism to be his absolute obliteration… those claws pulling him inexorably towards the end as the viewscreen changed and flashes the word ‘goodbye’. The GRINDER completes its work. In the almost oblivious streets above, a faint rumble is felt – knowing, fearful looks are briefly exchanged before the citizens hurry on with their business.

Apex neuro and tech producer MAZTEK arrives with his first full EP on leading d&b label, EATBRAIN. Following up appearances on the label’s Tales of the Undead and Mirror Universe VA LP’s, the GRINDER EP sees Maztek deliver 4 tracks of high-grade dancefloor weaponry, enwrapped in the kind of heavy sonic technology that his fans have come to expect. From the tear-out but tightly wound collaboration with with June Miller in BLAFFER, to the grime-influenced and glitched vocals of GOOD QUESTION that comes in heavy with the evil bounce of its bass – the EP runs a diverse and unique flex. Title-track GRINDER delivers an appropriately punishing assault, packed with sinister sound design and brooding, dynamic riff, whilst TANGLE delivers an edgy and lightly percussive shuffle to accompany its powerful bass. This is both an artist and a label at their best, delivering an overwhelmingly powerful artefact for the dance.

An endless darkness beckoned ahead, a deep void beyond that held its own gravity, pulled him ahead one paw at a time. Beneath his furry exterior, tucked in the warmth of tightly woven layers of the cotton, the fast beating of his organic heart pulsated nervously, stretching his chest stitches at the seams with its urgency in a constant rhythm. The shadows of the passage flickered in deathly silence over the uniform blackness of his glass bead eyes. Something was out there. He withdrew, sinking into the warm folds of a distant memory – being dropped by his skin companion, and the fuss that followed the soft hairless ones surrounding him with hushed cries, picking him up and dusting him off, holding him close and pressing him back into the fat pink digits of the little one as she kissed him on the eye and promised never to drop him again. The sound of tearing fabric pulled him at once back into the stark reality that faced him, as he looked down in horror at the cotton spilling from his shoulder… his arm slowly tumbling to the floor and landing with a soft and almost noiseless thud against the bleak floor. As he was still registering the beginnings of his own separation, the vast blade swung again – leaving him staggering in his new confusing balance, a furry torso on legs, wobbling unsteadily in the darkness. Then his vision fell forward, he was looking at himself… was that his armless body in front of him? How was it possible? His simple mind was reeling as his head went tumbling toward the floor, spinning as it dropped. The glint of the HELLBLADE caught his eye as his attacker stepped into the light, a hideous body of stacked limbs and rough stitches, cotton spilling out of the seams of its fur… the antithesis of innocence loomed heavily across the dying creature, the glint of his glass eyes faded as the TEDDY KILLER looked coldly upon its meaningless end.

One of Russia’s biggest drum and bass exports, TEDDY KILLERZ, return to the unstoppable EATBRAIN label in a massive way, following up their VIOLENCE EP of 2013 with their viciously modern HELLBLADE EP. Featuring 5 tracks of pure insanity, the Teddy Killerz crew surpass their original outing on the label in brutal style. A combination of dynamic breaks, powerful bass design and a clinical audio perspective with a pure annihilatory spirit delivers an impactful addition to a label that seems to have no bounds in its progression through new waves of future sonics.

Created beyond the reach of time was a being of singular purpose and identity, unknowable to those who dwelt within the presence of that same ever-flowing universal force. Its existence predated the creation of their universe, an event it had watched carefully with its many eyes focused upon that which took its fancy. Aloof as it was, it took interest in the most pivotal figures of that little universe, guiding their paths with nonchalant ease as they went about heroic lives within their insignificant realms. Their greatest triumphs, their most harrowing failures, the beginnings and endings of their myriad tales: all such were born of the fleeting desires of the being which lay beyond their minuscule conception.

Those minuscule creatures had given the being many names in their many languages and portrayed its form in innumerable fashions, each uniquely fantastic and decidedly far from the truth. The being cared not of these misinterpretations however, finding instead a humor in their inability to even scratch at the surface of its incomprehensible existence. Its true title was after all for them impossible to pronounce, and thus the being held a detached amusement for the names it had been given. In times long past it had been fate, providence and even kismet, but in this new age of their world such archaic titles held little meaning, and the being styled itself around a term it found most peculiar, guiding their world under the name of SELECTA.

NAIS makes his EATBRAIN debut with the SELECTA EP as he continues his meteoric rise in the Drum & Bass scene. Hailing from Russia, NAIS has delivered recent releases across labels such as Playaz Recordings and Kosenprod, as well as collaborations with longstanding heavyweights such as the TEDDY KILLERZ and forthcoming material on RAM Records. With the SELECTA EP representing the next step in his ambitious launch sequence, NAIS holds nothing back as he broadcasts a four track selection of brashly energetic neurofunk to the EATBRAIN horde.
