Since the news of Jay's death this August, I was not able to bring myself to write. On one hand, I would have so much to write about such a genius, but he meant so much to me personally too, so much that I could hardly start. In addition to all that has already been said about Jay, I would like to add my message, which is very personal to me.

I was the last manager Jay had; we did a lot together, from charities in South America to helping the victims of the tsunami in Japan alongside Seth Troxler. We released an album under the concept of Music 2.0, the interview he did that brought the Resident Advisor server down due to being such a polemic subject.

This album was titled Love=evolution. I did all the copywriting, tour bookings, and management with him. It was the first time I had ever managed an artist, let alone such a global tour. Not only did Jay initiate my career in music in this field of management, but during the time I managed him I had just graduated with a major in Psychology (Sociology & Third World Politics), and he also helped initiate me in mental health linked to artist work, which I still pursue today. During the years that Jay grew up, mental health was still a taboo, so I fear he did not receive enough support in that area. I would like to use this space to raise awareness of the importance of seeking and offering help to one another.

Jay had his demons, and in the past years it was quite hard for him, battling with the two sides of this genius personality: one the devil, and the other a true angel. An incredible genius of mind and artistry, one I want the memory of to live on, so I decided to release this recording.

This recording from fabric, 20 years ago, exactly in August, is one of my favourites, as valid then as it is valid now, this thing about timeless music.  When I started managing him in 2011, I got this recording to remind him of his own power; at that point he had already been through so much. Again, the battle for Jay was constant, so I used this as a reminder of the amazing beast he is. He nicknamed me Ice Dawg, following that.

My dear hizzle, rest in peace; your memory lives on.

I will do everything in my power to collect his unreleased music together with Lara, the beautiful daughter he left behind who lives in Peru with her mother, Estefania Vilallobos.

Love=Evolution, my darling, and we love(d) you.

Gilles Aiken, the Berlin DJ better known as Edward, makes shadowy club tracks with a surrealisticedge. Scuol Palace, tucked away in the Eastern Mountains of Switzerland, hosted the 1st Multiplay Festival, a beautiful foray into the wilderness, curated with love and attention. I was honoured to be invited to close the outdoor stage on Saturday night. A big bag of vinyl and some choice digital personal cuts and unreleased material as well as numbers from my circle.. 
Open the bag, do not prepare, exist in the moment and enjoy the ride, it’s where moments meld and the joy happens, the unexpected. Energy levels were high, the recording is no frills and raw!

The Pushamann 
What's the connection between hairdressing and electronic music? “None!”, you might think... Well, think again. The Pushamann is the missing link between these two creative industries, injecting just as much flair and panache into his DJ sets as he does when whipping up his latest creation in the salon. 
The Pushamann is 31-year-old Charles Kerr, a man who has become a favourite at fabric, making regular appearances at the seminal club since 2008. During a career spanning 10 years Kerr has also set up his own label NoN Music, landed his own show on Rinse FM and has several releases under his belt. His penchant for all things 4/4 means he provides a diverse, though cohesive, performance wherever he plays, merging traditional house grooves, nu disco, deep techno and venturing into leftfield territory when the situation allows. There is no preference with genres, “If I like it, I'll play it,” he says. It's as simple as that. Over the years, the hairdresser has proven time and again that he is a cut above many of his peers when it comes to connecting with his audience and working up dancefloors into a frenzy. 
Inspirations range from US and UK garage to funk, soul and disco while UK titans such as Craig Richards and Terry Francis have also fueled The Pushamann's love for music – in fact, the latter of the two was responsible for his big break. Terry Francis booked The Pushamann to play at fabric six years ago and he's been a constant fixture ever since, playing at the club every three months. 
Despite this dream residency and its fringe benefits he's continued to work hard and has never been complacent, knowing full well that the music business is a fickle one and the only way to ensure longevity in one's career is to maintain a consistency high work ethic. The Pushamann's dedication to his night-time career has seen him play at venues such as Turnmills (RIP), Corsica Studios, Basing House, Cafe 1001 and Building Six to more intimate locations such as the infamous Star of Bethnal Green and Rolling Stock. While recent overseas gigs include an appearance at Berlin's Kater Holzig. 
In the process of building a long-lasting career, he has invested all his spare time and energy into maintining his club night, Nature or Nurture, where he's the mane attraction along with Terry Francis. This event has led to the birth of an offshoot label, which he cites as representing “real house sounds for real house heads”. Artists including Lewis Ryder, Marc Ashkan, Zeitgeist and Mitch Davis have all released on the label, as well as Kerr himself. His own productions reflecting the energy and dexterity he displays in his DJ sets; with sleazy, deep and sensual grooves built for the dancefloor. 
As 2014 gets into full swing, Kerr looks to the future with an assured focus on maintaining the high level he has already achieved. More appearances at fabric are already booked in for his ever popular NoN Music takeovers, plus gigs overseas including bookings in the ever fertile German capital, Berlin where he'll be playing at The Chalet club. This year will also see a renewed focus on production, with an EP in collaboration with his good friend Alexander Wall due for release via NoN very soon, along with many other studio projects penciled in for this year. 
With a ten-year-long career already behind him, The Pushamann has the experience and knowledge to continue marching on to the very top. You can rest assured that he's hair to stay!
