- The extremists among the philosophers, Jahmiyyah, Qaramitah, Bātiniyyah, their position regarding the names and attributes of Allāh, and the response to this.

Taqreeb at-Tadmuriyyah - Lesson 17

L57 Explains the Tenth, Eleventh & Twelfth Hadiths: Concerning the affirmation for Allah, from the Sunnah, of 'Ulu (Loftiness), Transcendence and the affirmation of His Ma'iyyah with His Creation. The lesson discusses:

- Explanation of the hadith: "The Throne is above the water, and Allah is above the Throne, and He knows what circumstance you are in." A Hasan Hadith reported by Abu Dawud and others.

- Explanation of his statement ﷺ to the slave girl: "Where is Allah?" She replied: "In the heaven." He said: "Who am I?" She replied:" You are the Messenger of Allah" He said: "Free her, for indeed she is a believer." Reported by Muslim.

- The permissibility of asking the question “where is Allah?” contrary to how people of innovation detest this question.

- The fact that the Prophet ﷺ asked "Where" proves that Allah has a place (where He is). However, it is obligatory that we know that Allah, Exalted is He, cannot be surrounded by places, because He is greater than everything, and because nothing is above the cosmos. There is nothing there except Allah; He is above everything.

- Explanation of the hadith: "The most virtuous of faith is that you know that Allah is with you wherever you are." A Hasan (good) Hadith.

- The above Hadith indicates the Ma'iyyah of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, and it has preceded in the (section mentioning) the Ayat, that Allah's Ma'iyyah does not imply that He is on the earth. Rather, it is absolutely impossible He is on the earth, because Al-'Ulu is among the Attributes of the Self (Adh-Dhatiyyah), which He does not ever separate from; it is rather always with Him, Glorious and Exalted is He.

- Appropriate responses and refutations for those who try to explain away these and other attributes of Allah.
