The Reading is a collaboration between pianist/visual artist/writer Marisol Limon Martinez and DJ/multi-instrumentalist M. Eugene Lemcio. A mutual love of melody and rhythm has erased any differences in their backgrounds which often blend the influence of classical piano, new-wave synth rock, '60s European pop, and a glimmer of club music's golden age.

Eugene found Marisol singing songs to herself  and walking along the moat of a dark castle. Her piano was locked inside, so he brought his melodica and finger cymbals to aid in her quest. They traded polyrhythms for poetry, an assortment of hats for shoes, and holy beads for books of Aztec imagery. When the drawbridge finally opened, the two entered to find the walls paved with kit kat bars and mosaics of starburst fruit chews.

In another reality, Marisol and Eugene had a day-off in Berlin while on tour with Scott Matthew, with whom they performed and recorded. Marisol was lying in bed with a ukulele and Eugene was nearby with a kalimba. They made up duets about chocolate and unrequited love as if the candy castle was their home.
 
The Reading would evolve from nights of daydreaming, divination, and a mutual love for song.
