Berlin Sessions

Rene Wise has only been in the game a short time though his network and output hint differently. A drummer from the age of seven, his intuitive ear naturally turned digital and has been catching the attention of industry heads in recent years. Bassiani Podcast 92 is a perfect exemplar for his sound: primal, anarchic and groovy, the fluent brand of techno with which the fresh-faced Brightonian has rightfully earned his stripes.

With the 10th ndyuka podcast i got inspired to dig a bit deeper into my heritage, which leads me to the West African country Ghana. A lot Surinamese Marrons are Akan descendants from Ghana and the roots are still visible in the language and way of living. It is truly amazing to see that the foundation of the culture is so strong that it lives on forever. 

Abusuafo) means Family in ashanti (ghanian dialect). With Ghana and the Afro Surinamese people being connected so closely, this is the keyword translated from this podcast. 

I've tried to mix this set a bit different than usual. Emphasizing different flows in the set without losing energy but still capture ways of consistency.

Don’t let his lofty nom de guerre fool you, Kaiser knows how to connect with a crowd of people. Puglia native and neophyte label boss, Gianluca Caiati has been spreading his gospel via hypnotic sets and his K S R imprint for a few years now. For Bassiani Podcast 111 the message comes as a signature mix of primal rhythms, oscillating whirs, snaking clicks and a whole lot of groove. If you aren’t yet a convert, you might find yourself hoisting the Kaiser flag soon.

Where past episodes have screamed, this one whispers. Albeit based in Berlin, Claudio PRC’s sound recalls the heavily meditative braindance so abundantly exported from his Italian homeland this past decade. Call it something in the air, or water, the current is there; his particular brand of italo-techno though, borrows from early influences in Detroit and Musique Concrète to intelligently craft a mesh of textures, vibrations and sparing melody that frequently darts through the abyss and across the fourth wall. Need proof? Bassiani Podcast 114 is it. And for those whose curiosity for his work doesn’t end here, check out his output via 012, his collaborative platform for experimentations in art and sound.
