Band punk lawas asal Jakarta, The Protester bakal melepas single terbarunya 'Skinhead'. Nomor yang dirilis pada 12 Agustus ini menandai kembalinya unit Oi! Punks sejak hiatus pada 2002 karena kesibukan personil, dan kini kembali aktif ke scene musik independen lokal.

'Skinhead' merupakan karya pertama yang digarap dengan formasi personil terbaru pasca rilisnya mini album pertama Destruction Love and Hate 16 tahun silam. Berbeda dengan debut EP tersebut yang tersedia dalam format kaset, single anyar mereka kali ini disajikan dalam format digital yang bebas unduh melalui situs Ripstore.Asia dengan lisensi Creative Commons.

Ditulis pada 2015 oleh Mamad, frontman The Protester, lagu ini terinspirasi dari kisah imigran dan kaum tertindas dari kelas pekerja pada akhir era 60-an di Inggris yang kemudian melahirkan sub-kultur musik jalanan Oi!/streetpunk dan punk. Single ini juga tengah digarap videoklipnya bekerjasama dengan bengkel studio asal Bekasi, Photographer Lounge dan akan dirilis dalam waktu dekat.

Cikal bakal The Protester sendiri bermula dari Abraskadabra, grup musik ska-punk yang telah wara-wiri di berbagai panggung seperti Poster Cafe, M-Club, dan berbagai universitas di Jakarta pada era 90-an. Tepat pada pertengahan 1999, Abraskadabra menggali roots bermusiknya ke arah stret-punks dengan mengangkat tema-tema politis dan kehidupan sosial. Sempat berganti sejumlah personil, The Protester kini beranggotakan Mamad (Gitar, vokal), Darwin (Gitar, lead vokal), Billy (Bass, vokal), Joe (Drum, vokal). Franky Flame, Sham69, The Business adalah sejumlah musisi yang menjadi influence bermusik mereka.

I'm a big fan of The Misfits. When it comes down to it, their music is just simple, fast, and raw. Over the years I've found more high quality, recorded covers of their song "Last Caress" than of any other punk song out there. To make this remix I collected the versions of the song which I liked the best and cut them together in a manner I thought would give the song the most kick (and hopefully Danzig would approve). At first I ran into a few problems dealing with different tempos in different versions, but as an good editor will do with troublesome material, I worked my way around them and the outcome is something everyone can enjoy. If you like the song, you should get a kick out of folk singer, Aerial M's version.
