Always at the forefront with an active role in emerging stylistic nuances Century Media has truly shattered the barriers and exemplified diversity in extremes while remaining rooted in the underground but giving bands opportunities outside of the normal means with major league international touring, commercial radio play, and music placement in high-profile films, TV and commercials. Despite all of the years and breakthroughs the company maintains their organic, family feel and business is still being conducted by fans of the music for fans of the music.

Moshi Moshi Records started off as a hobby in 1998. Set up by three friends who had jobs working for major record labels. It was intended as a way of working with the bands that they loved but which didn’t fit in with the agenda of the day-job taskmasters. Early single releases from Zan Lyons, Kathryn Williams & Pedro and J Xaverre earned the label some plaudits. And sold a few records. Over the next five years Moshi Moshi slowly started to build a reputation for interesting, slightly leftfield, low-key releases. Then in 2004 things changed. For a start Moshi stopped being a hobby and became a fulltime job. Very soon after, Hot Chip and Bloc Party arrived and Moshi Moshi quickly became a name known to more than a few. Chart success followed with Yeti and The Rakes and higher-profile album releases from Architecture In Helsinki and Au Revoir Simone helped lift the label onto a new level. Then from 2006 onwards came artists such as Hot Club De Paris, Tilly And The Wall, The Wave Pictures, Slow Club, James Yuill, The Drums, Summer Camp, the list goes on.

In late 2006 the two remaining Moshi Moshi founders decided they wanted to get back to their one-off 7” release roots and the Moshi Moshi Singles Club was born. The intention was to try and release one 7” each month by a new up-and-coming artist. It would be limited to 1000 and only be available in a select group of indie stores. The artwork would be restricted to one colour and be designed by the bands themselves. Now some 40+ releases later the singles club’s roster makes an impressive list – (including) Kate Nash, Late of The Pier, Friendly Fires, Lykke Li, Florence and The Machine, Kindness, Dananananayckroyd. Disclosure. In 2011 Moshi Moshi expanded its remit by partnering up with some very talented young A&R folk to set up the imprints Tender Age, Not Even, Apricot and Dream Beach. Working under the Moshi Moshi umbrella these new labels have already yielded a clutch of exciting releases by artists from as far afield as Kenya and Seattle.

At the same time as running the record label Moshi Moshi Management has been quietly guiding the career of Metronomy and Slow Club as well as producers Ash Workman and Ollie Bayston. From 2012 this side of the business started to expand dramatically and now features a sizeable roster of emerging artists.

Looking back on the Moshi Moshi roster (particularly since the label ‘went fulltime’ in 2004) it’s a collection that bears comparison with any of its peers. For a label run by two people with no financial backing, it’s nothing short of an inspiration.

Siphoning ounces of that baggy swagger from the spectacular Urban Hymns, and pumping their own brand of mellow psych into the mix, The Sailmakers give us another taste of what they’re made of, and they’re proving a force to be reckoned with.
There’s a calm yet persistent energy running through Mountain Song, the band have a direction, but they’re in no hurry, slowing it down to an easy stroll but harnessing an excellent groove.
It’s a cracking blending of 60’s psych throwback, The Babe Rainbow, a steady dose of Brit-Pop and a stir of the more serious, sense-boggling work of Toy.

"In the short time since putting their heads above the parapet in 2012, the Sailmakers folk rock sound has changed somewhat and has seen a shift towards the purple haze side of the airwaves. A lot of groups are jumping on the bandwagon of the modern psych movement with some fantastic bands out there slinging audible dope and its the massive shot in the arm that British music needs.
Preach Preach Preach has a definite groove on guitar with a kick ass melody that instantly has your head nodding along and although the signature reverb effects are plain to hear, the main guitar riff maintains a high degree of clarity and not so much of the haze side of things. The wider sounds seem to redress this and with lyrics like “On the astral plane I’ve got a lion to tame” there’s plenty going on for all you day trippers to get your teeth into. Overall a cracking tune that’s well worth a listen and if the material that’s forthcoming is more of the same then we will be giving it a good spin."

If you were to blend venomous guitar riffs with some old school drum beats, throw in some deep funky bass and a powerhouse voice, complete with a slight Glasgow twang, the resulting aftermath would produce The Sneaky Russians. The Coatbridge kings of rock n roll are a self-made five piece group consisting of like minded individuals, all of whom have one aim which is deliver great music to the people. As the loyal Sneaky Army grow in numbers, the bands confident talent shines brighter with every passing day.            After the launch of well received first EP ‘Along the Bottom’ in early 2010, The Rudiments proudly strode on, performing live on a regular basis helping to build up a faithful and ever growing fanbase, not only in their hometown but throughout Scotland and further afield. These gigs inspired them to work towards making their next recording reflect the energy and spirit of the live shows. So as the long, dark winter nights approached the boys got together and agreed to take a break from playing live, batten down the hatches and begin preparations for this record.

 At the end of February 2011, after months of rehearsing and writing, they emerged blinking from their bunker, packed their satchels, gathered their instruments and headed for the tiny village of Crawfordjohn deep in the Scottish countryside. Once there, they embarked on the final part of their mission - To trackdown and possibly (with a little bit of luck!) acquire the services of the mythical, and illusive ‘DOCTOR BONE’...

No-one has heard from or seen The Rudiments since that cold February morning when they set off from Glasgow so full of hopes and dreams, but luckily (well, not for them obviously!) a CD of mixed and mastered songs was found by a lake in the woods near the village.

Epitaph Records is an independent music label founded in Los Angeles by Bad Religion guitarist Brett Gurewitz. Early releases from a variety of punk heavyweights spawned what became known as the 90s punk explosion. 

Along the way Epitaph proudly launched its sister label ANTI-, representing unique and distinguished acts. From the beginning Epitaph’s mission has been to serve the musicians on its diverse and creative roster - an artist-first model, radical twenty years ago, and much imitated today.
