The Oxidized compilation series is a charity project we have been working on since the inception of The Rust Music, with Oxidized, Vol. 1 being our very first label release in February 2017. At the end of each year we select a new charity, aid organization, or non-profit, to which all proceeds from the series are donated. In the past we have donated to organizations focusing on natural disaster aid, environmental restoration and preservation, as well as civil/human rights advocates and COVID-19 relief efforts on local, national, and international levels. 2022 proceeds from the Oxidized series will be donated to support women’s rights to healthcare and access to abortion, with this year’s donation to be determined towards the end of 2023.

Across the last 6 years, we've recurrently tapped into a network of both our roster talent and our close associates across the experimental electronic music spectrum to craft our first two Oxidized compilations. Now, for the final entry in the Oxidized Trilogy, we've brought together 32 producers, songwriters, and musicians from the US, the UK, Germany and Georgia to craft 28 tracks that cross through a medley of motifs in Hip-Hop, Drum & Bass, Downtempo, and more. Please relax and enjoy this curated selection of moods and attitudes, courtesy of The Rust Music and our extended kinfolk.

A heavy bass driven, psychedelic, grimey, bouncy, and intentional draw arises through this compilation which features 14 international underground producers: beatfarmer, CALMA DUB, Chris Komus, CloZee, DRRTYWULVZ, Echo&Tito (TRIBONE Remix), Ecometric, Floating Anarchy, Halfred, Johny Pablo, K.L.O, Matt Pleztrom, Secret Recipe, and Sixis. MALAKAI is the musical vision of Brooklyn based producer, DJ and multi-instrumentalist, Malakai Linden. Drawing on a wide range of influences, his music strives to bridge a gap between electronic and acoustic spaces, incorporating sounds of real-world instruments into an eclectic brand of bass driven electronic beats. Following a pattern of organic growth, MALAKAI’s live sets consist of a carefully curated and immersive journey through a multitude of musical flavors.

MALAKAI began producing in 2011 at the age of 17 under the guidance of acclaimed producer/guitarist Derek VanScoten (Cloudchord, D.V.S*) and went on to earn a degree in Music Technology from New York University. In 2017, he teamed up with Wyler Sanca and Francesco Ferran to form The Rust Music, a record label, blog and production company dedicated to showcasing forward-thinking music and art in NYC. 

Since his start, MALAKAI has shared stages with internationally renowned artists such as Emancipator, Desert Dwellers, Ott, Random Rab, Clozee, and Purity Ring, and appeared at numerous festivals across the northeast including Wild Woods Music (NH), Camp Bisco (PA), and Great North (ME).

Over the past year, MALAKAI has been featured on releases through Desert Trax (Antumbral Shadow - compiled by Desert Dwellers), and The Rust Music (Saros EP, Oxidized Vol. 2). Looking to the future there are a number of new projects on his plate, including several collaborations, singles and more to be released in 2018.
