MoBlack Records celebrates its 500th imprint with a collection of gems from the label's nearly one decade at the forefront of Afro House. Handpicked by MoBlack himself, '500 Steps' presents 10 past releases  between those have inspired and shaped what is known and enjoyed today as Afro House, Afro Tech and Melodic House & Techno. Through 10 decisive MoBlack tracks, produced from all over the world by veteran producers and rising stars alike, '500 Steps' tells many stories: an artist's passion, dreams reached, a genre's evolution, triumphs when boundaries are pushed and innovation when new avenues of sound are explored. The anthology traverses intersections of human connection through music, traveling through memories made in studios and on dancefloors. Along with this milestone, MoBlack lauds the artists' and their artworks' impact on Afro house and electronic music, looking towards the future of sound, gleaming robustly and reaching deeper as ever.

Red Axes return to Crosstown Rebels with their absorbing new single ‘Relax Shiva’, featuring remixes from  DJ Gregory and Sidartha Siliceo ft. Heiko Dijker.  

An electronic duo at the forefront of house and techno, Tel-Aviv-based pairing Dori Sadovnik and Niv Arzi, aka Red Axes,  continue to advance and develop their own ever-evolving eccentric and idiosyncratic sound. Informed by new wave and post punk through to electronic genres across the spectrum, their releases on Erol Alkan’s Phantasy Sound, Jennifer Cardini’s  Correspondant and Life and Death, coupled with recent material on Higher Ground and Shall Not Fade, have welcomed a  plethora of varying soundscapes. This versatility and range is something they explore once again as they return to Damian  Lazarus’ Crosstown Rebels - following on from 2015’s ‘Sabor’ - with their latest single, ‘Relax Shiva’. 

“The first time we heard the voice was when we meditated in Mexico. We tried to focus on the meditation but  couldn’t stop thinking, ‘this could be cool with a kick and some acid’. We added some dancefloor flavours back in the  studio but wanted to keep the original vibe. We produced this track really fast; all the ideas were instant” - Red Axes. 

An intensely hypnotic and entrancing effort that slowly wanders and creeps between sounds and spheres covering all hours of  the night, the warping ‘Relax Shiva’ utilises resounding and deep organic percussion alongside a spiralling deeply-rooted acid  line at its core to guide the trance-inducing vocal calls across a near-eight minute trip. Providing the first remix on the package,  Parisian house legend DJ Gregory, aka Point G, harnesses the vocals while introducing crisp, rolling drums and winding  melodies, while Sidartha Siliceo’s take featuring Heiko Dijker strips things back as the renowned Sitar and Tabla players  provide a riveting and magnetic journey capturing the imagination and transporting listeners to the heart of India.

@progressiveastronaut Review: Jelly For The Babies new imprint RYNTH launches this week with a single from Fec, Chaty and Tamez. With a focus on deep melancholic house, coupled with ethnic sounds and laid back electronica this new Serbian imprint joins an already impressive label group made up of One Of A Kind and The Purr Music. It’s a sound that cross pollinates well much like the Mexican trio who land on RYNTH with much acclaim. With a collective discography highlighted by releases on Selador, Sincopat and Fec’s own Anathema Records, the trio now presents their latest single ‘Path Of The Ancient’ alongside a remix from Lerr.

A new addition to the 1,200 strong Proton tribe, RYNTH is the latest brainchild of Jelly For The Babies. Renowned for his other labels The Purr Music and One Of A Kind, the Serb presents what’s perhaps his most audacious project yet. Reflecting that forward energy, longtime prog house staple Dio S supplies the label’s 2nd release. Much like his transcendent Sol Selectas Records collab with fellow Greek Kosmas, “One More Drama” incorporates today’s trending percussion, groove and BPM.

@progressiveastronaut Review:  Jelly For The Babies newly launched RYNTH imprint closes out 2018 by welcoming Dio S to the label for his debut EP. Fresh off an excellent release for Madloch’s Sound Avenue imprint, the Greek artist has also found a home on Lee Burridge’s Get Weird and Sol Selectas. Following an auspicious beginning in November, RYNTH now further establishes itself as one of the most exciting new deep imprints with a fresh EP from Dio S.

Comprised of three selections it’s the title cut ‘One More Drama’ which gets the proceedings under way. Tight and punchy yet smooth and laid back it’s a piece that carries both hopeful and melancholic qualities. Clanky drums and luminous pads immediately grab your attention as wistful motifs collect around the framework. Coming to full fruition during the second of two breaks, it’s a strummy motif which completes the musical theme, perfectly segueing into a classy finale.

@progressiveastronaut Review: Jelly For The Babies RYNTH imprint begins 2019 by welcoming Balad to the label for his debut single. Hailing from Sydney, the Australian artist made his debut in August of 2017 on Aftertech Records and has since found a home on Lost Diaries and Sprinkler where his deep, dreamy take on house music has flourished. Now beginning 2019 with his most anticipated single to date, Balad debuts on RYNTH with ‘Familiarity’ alongside remixes from Youlaike and Adam Nathan.

Beginning with the original mix Balad explores a wonderful blend of lazy, laid back grooves and tranquil melodic concepts. It’s this fusion which has made him one of Australia’s most exciting new names. A warm, spacious groove anchors the piece while creamy designs and dulcet tones converge for reflective moments. The build out of the break is quite elegant, gently elevating mood and anticipation as wispy effects drift against a backdrop of atmospheric colour.
