what I am wondering... how did those guys do those sets for 10, 12, 14 or even more hours? Longest I ever did was 7 and after that I was half dead. And no drug could push me to do a 15 hour set! It's immeasureable what these Saint DJs accomplished!!

I agree entirely with Mr. Fonk. The accomplishment of these sets stands for the ages. Glory in them at your leisure, for they equate to a dancers’ swim across the English Channel. And, gods below, blessings on the restorations that bring them back!

Alrighty People... You know what... When You love something with passion, it simply comes 2 u. Now now, I give God all tha glory 1st & 4most alwayz... & God know'z that passion we have cuz He put it in there. Well check thiz out... all who know me well, know how much I love Junior Vasquez... so much that @ certain event'z I played, instead of screaming my name, they would yell Junior Jr. LOL!!! I'm not going 2 lie, I did love it ")
In any case, back in tha early 90'z, my good friend'z cousin wuz dating Junior'z body guard/security in tha DJ booth. I can't remember hiz name, but he had pics of him with Junior along with these he recorded tapez right from tha DJ booth. So yes, thiz iz a master cassette copy. 
I have a few more... hopefully I can find.
In any case, I did get 2 do sum work 4 my brotha Junior on hiz "Generation Next" album on Tommy Boy Records NYC.

They are a handful of very special nights that Roy chose to give an extra designation to by naming them.  This is one of those meaningful nights, presented here in two parts, Roy Thode's debut performance at The Saint, NYC on October 25, 1980, simply titled: “First”

Balls Deep Disco Mix | Summer 2019

I took a week to let it all sink in. 

Nights like this are the reason I do what I do. It’s amazing how the simple act of playing music can create so much joy, and I am so grateful that I can play a role in bringing joy to our community and to the world. I felt the glow of this experience for days afterwards, and I access it again every time I listen to this recording. (As a DJ, there’s honestly nothing more gratifying than when I listen to the recording and I can hear the crowd’s ecstatic yelling and screaming coming through the needle.)

The Gay Nineties is not about being “cool.” It’s not even about always playing songs that are “good” (hat tip to Venus X for that wake-up call). What it’s about is having fun! It doesn’t matter whether every transition is perfect. (Playing vinyl for 5 hours means you have to let go of any expectation of perfection.) What matters is building and sustaining a vibe that creates that joyful, communal experience on the dance floor.

The first Gay Nineties was in August 2017 in a little izakaya and about a dozen people came out for it. Now I get to throw this party in my favorite club in Portland, and over 200 people came through the doors. 

I am truly grateful to everyone who showed up in the room that night at the Liquor Store. (Every time I DJ I am grateful for the immense privilege of playing music for people who enjoy dancing to it.) And I’m grateful to everyone who couldn’t make it but sent their love and support from afar. 

I especially want to thank Patrick Schneider https://soundcloud.com/woodboxcreative for his incredible support. Patrick knows exactly what I’m aiming for with the Gay Nineties. Not only does he offer invaluable assistance with setting things up and creating the right atmosphere, he also acts as my eyes and years in the crowd, feeding me insights about the vibe that I can’t always see from behind the DJ booth. 

I want to thank my fellow DJs from https://soundcloud.com/no-fomo-pdx and Circuit Breaker who helped me promote the event. I love working with these beautiful souls to create amazing parties in Portland every month! In more normal times, we'd be celebrating our 8th "birthday/anniversary" as Occupy The Disco with all of you in person, but since we can't, we wanted to share one of our recent Paradisco sets with all of you and announce a new effort to support our friends at Le Bain.

Le Bain makes it possible for us to gather our friends and chosen family, week after week, to celebrate life, music and each other. 

What makes Le Bain so great is their staff. From the door, to the coat check, elevator, bar, bathroom, management, lights and sound, the staff are the lifeblood that ensure our days and nights there are always enjoyable. 

With the current health conditions, the club remains closed and all of the amazing staff are out of work. We are turning to you – our community, our family, our friends – to donate and help offset the loss of income for the staff of Le Bain. Many of them have families they need to support. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to them.  

Please consider making a donation if you are feeling generous (any amount is okay - link available on this page), to help out until we can all dance together again. In honor of our 8th birthday as Occupy The Disco,  we've donated $2500 to help kick things off and we're hoping that you, collectively can help match that.

The Saint At Large exists in the space where music, dance and art collide and is the possessor of a queer nightlife and arts archive that dates back to Stonewall. Over its 40 year history it has retained its reputation for cutting edge innovation and staging. Its biggest event, The Black Party, held every Spring in New York City, is considered the father of all large nightlife events and remains one of the oldest gay dance parties in the world. The Black Party has grown through many transformations in the NYC nightlife environment and continues to wow audiences with large-scale installations, theatrical staging and light shows, all set to a soundtrack by the best DJs from the international underground.
