At the crest of rave in San Francisco, at the helm of funky disco house, at the changing tide from vinyl to digital, stood DJ, label owner, producer and innovator, Jonny Phelps. Better known as Jonéné, he is synonymous with the notorious Stompy Stomp parties of the Bay, and with spinoff enterprise Stompy.com -- the first digital download site designed for DJs, established at the turn of the millennium. He cofounded and grew the 23-year-old Stompy legacy while touring in over 40 countries and releasing on over 30 labels. Birthed as a New Wave-inspired musician in 1984, Jonéné gravitated to SF in ‘94, where he co-founded label Panhandle Music five years later. Then he migrated to San Diego in 2001, where he co-launched follow-up label Safe In Sound music with a Panhandle partner. In 2002, now a global phenomenon, Jonny was recognized and honored in URB Magazine’s Top 100 Artists issue.  

With the sweet relief of an unclasped bra after a long day, his trademark style bounces, breathes, and above all, emancipates. Jonéné’s sexy, sun-kissed works are claimed by Cider Records (alongside Tony Senghore, 2002), Aroma Records (alongside Touchdown in 2002), Muzique Boutique Recordings (again with Senghore in 2002), Afterschool (alongside Lance Desardi in 2003), Doubledown (“Mr. Kaboom If You’re Nasty,” 2003), Area DJ (“Cat Scratch Fever,” 2003), Scenic (as DJ Jonéné vs. Jonny Kaboom with EP “My Delectable Delights‎,” 2004), Photo Records (“Flash” EP, 2006), Guesthouse Music (Remix EP “Kaboom is Back,” 2012), and of course, by his own labels, along with many others. After several successful collaborated endeavors, Texas-based Jonny is now trailblazing solo, reimagining his signature sound and the label that best represents him, a rekindled Panhandle. As his own label gears up for upcoming releases, DOIN’ WORK Records released Jonéné’s playfully daring production in March 2016  — with apropos EP “I Won’t Quit.”
