'Make Pictures With The Sound' is the brand new album by the Saafi Brothers on UK label Liquid Sound Design. 
The release title is inspired by a quote from legendary British music producer John Leckie, who can be heard in the opening track 'Beautiful Satellite'. With this album, the Saafi Brothers do just that; make pictures with the sound and take us on a journey through their sound universe deeply rooted in the psychedelic dub genre. 
From downtempo tunes like Rays Of Dawn, 108 Elements, Lovin' The Orbit and Mantra Dub, to midtempo Chill-dance tracks Ritualized Space, Bound To The Night and The Possibility Of Change, the album provides the perfect setting to explore the musical and emotional spectrum of the Saafi Brothers music.

Human history represents such a radical break with the natural systems of biological organisation that preceded it that it must be the response to a kind of attractor or dwell point that lies ahead in the temporal dimension. Persistently western religions have integrated into their theologies the notion of a kind of end of the world. And I think that a lot of psychedelic experimentation sort of confirms this intuition. I mean it isn't going to happen according to any of the scenarios of orthodox religion, but the basic intuition that the universe seeks closure in a kind of omega point of transcendence is confirmed. It's almost as though this object in hyperspace, glittering in hyperspace, throws off reflections of itself, which actually ricochet into the past, illuminating this mystic, inspiring that saint or visionary, and that out of these fragmentary glimpses of eternity we can build a kind of a map of not only the past of the universe and the evolutionary ingression into novelty, but a kind of map of the future. 

This is what Shamanism has always been about. A Shaman is someone who has been to the end. It is someone who knows how the world really works, and knowing how the world really works, means to have risen outside, above, beyond the dimensions of ordinary space-time and cozooistry and actually seen the wiring under the board; stepped outside the confines of learned culture and learned an embedded language into the domain of what Wittgenstein called the unspeakable, the transcendental presence of the other, which can be sectioned in various ways to yield systems of knowledge which can be brought back into ordinary social space for the good of the community. So in the context of ninety percent of human culture, the Shaman has been the agent of evolution, because the Shaman learns techniques to go between ordinary reality and the domain of the ideas: this higher dimensional continuum that is somehow parallel to us, available to us and yet ordinarily occluded by cultural convention out of the fear of the mystery, I believe. And what Shamans are, are people who have been able to de-condition themselves from the community's instinctual distrust of the mystery, and go into it, to go into this bewildering higher dimension, and gain knowledge, recover the jewel lost at the beginning of time, save souls, cure, commune with the ancestors and so forth and so on. 

A shamanism is not a religion - it's a set of techniques, and the principle technique is the use of psychedelic plants. What psychedelics do is they dissolve boundaries and in the presence of dissolved boundaries one cannot continue to close one's eyes to the ruination of the earth, the poisoning of the seas and the consequences of two thousand years of unchallenged, dominator culture, based on monotheism, hatred of nature, suppression of the female and so forth and so on. So, what Shamans have to do is act as exemplars by making this cosmic journey to the domain of the gaian ideas, and then bringing them back in the form of art, to a struggle to save the world.

Cosmicleaf Records series’ next guest is Denny Kay a.k.a. IN’R’VOICE.

Denny Kay (a.k.a. Den Kozlov) began his music career in Moscow, the capital of Russia. In the late 80s he was a follower of the classic industrial bands like Skinny Puppy, Front 242 and Nitzer Ebb. Very few people knew about this music behind the Iron Curtain in Communist Russia of that time. Driven by the innovative sound of industrial music, Denny began to experiment with whatever analogue synthesizers he could find in the recording studios of Soviet Moscow. In 1992 he recorded his first tracks in the studio ‘Tandem’ – which recorded mainly pop musicians, but had very enthusiastic sound engineers. Together they developed the sound of Denny’s project Inner Resonance Voice (In’R’Voice).
1994 In’R’Voice became hugely popular on Moscow’s main radio station Maximum, and in a fast growing amount of nightclubs. A year later he received an award for Innovations In Music from the Ministry of Culture of Russia. Until now this is the only award for Underground Electronic Music in Russian Federation.

1996 Den visited London, at that time the world’s capital of Electronic Music. He witnessed the very first events of just-born trance music held by the legendary Transient Records (Otherworld party), the label Return To The Source (at the Fridge nightclub) and the party collective ‘Pagan’ with Mark Allen (part of Matsuri Productions, with Tsuyoshi Suzuki). He met the key masters of the new trend, and recorded collaboration tracks with the superstars of the genre – such as Tim Healey (Quirk/Coburn) and Seb Taylor (Shakta/Kaya Project/Hibernation). To break the Iron Curtain, Denny helped to organise concerts in Moscow for the leading trance projects like Shakta, Slide, Quirk, and DJs like Baraka, John Phantasm, Mike McGuire (Juno Reactor), Chris Organic etc.

1999 Den relocated to London, bringing his music to the worldwide Electronic Music scene, playing alongside James Monro, Blue Planet Corporation, Tim Schuldt, Infected Mushroom, Bumbling Loons, Shakta, Hux Flux and many more. The first full album on Optica Records In’R’Voice & ‘Resonance Metaphizix’ was mastered at the famous Abbey Road Studios in London.

After 2004, Denny began to experiment with other styles of music, and his explorations gave birth to several cult Electronica albums like ‘Digital Shamanism’ on London’s Optica Records, ‘The Scent Of Russian Dreams’ on Sphere Records and collaboration with Grammy nominee jazz vocalist Samantha Farrell – ‘Inexplicable Premonitions’ (as Den Kozlov) at System Recordings in New York, USA.

2008 Denny founded his own multigenre record label Kissthesound Records (kissthesound.com), and Techno labels Axiomatic Records (axiomatic-records.com) and Ubertrend Records (ubertrend-records.tech) for Dub Techno and Deep Techno music. Denny’s famous Spiral Starship Studio is located within 100metres from Abbey Road Studios in London, where he produces a constantly growing massive collection of records, which now number over 50 in 20 years, with near 200 publications of his music overall.
