Finally, I can talk about this - my debut album Human is coming next year, March 10. This is the first single from it, Adrift, with my long running vocal collaborator Kathrin deBoer. I had a simple piano chord progression and a randomised percussion idea to give to Kathrin, who captured the feeling beautifully with her lyrics and jazz influenced vocal approach. It's more of a personal piece of music for me than a club track, which is the approach I've taken for the whole album.

j g b (@jgbmusic) is the brainchild by the 19 years old producer Joao Braga from Niterói, Brazil. He is a rising artist who recently came to our attention for his stunning ranger and weirdo-elegant compositions, his most recent works proves why. 

Following on from these observations, Joao has an interesting musical research and usually records guitar, acoustic guitar and percussion to use in his outlandish musical musings. It deeply reflects on this 49th edition cause the mixtape is filled with tons of odd layers of instrumentation; creatively vocals that stir up a sense of Brazilian nostalgia, thus the whole package of this podcast makes it a ageless piece of a good taste authorial work.

The Ecuadorian @Quixosis, aka Daniel Lofredo Rota, releases a mixtape with Nómade which shapes a worldview in and of itself. It’s a personal, essential, and musical journey. It’s especially soft, slow, and contemplative. It’s a sound that accompanies you in your own reflection, giving space to space, and destroying for good the sound barrier.

Nobody rushes you, nobody chases you into the jungle, and the music which Quixosis builds for you is so much like your own being, organic like thought and breath. It’s a consonant and natural electronic with a harmonious flow that is without falter.

It’s a mixtape rooted in an origin that maintains a magnetism towards its home in Ecuador. It teeters like a stubborn monkey balancing, without falling, towards both poles of the earth. The mixtape takes the essence from our Latin American identity and brings it to the synthesizers of Europe, generating a blend that today is strong and binds us together while defying gravity.

Un viaje personal, esencial, musical y particularmente suave, lento y contemplativo. Un mixtape enraizado a los orígenes, que mantiene un magnetismo regional propio del Ecuador y que se tambalea como monito porfiado hacia ambos polos de la tierra sin caerse. Tomando extractos de nuestra Latinoamérica identitaria para llevarlos a una Europa de sintetizadores y generar este sonido metizo que hoy toma fuerza y nos mantiene unidos, desafiando la gravedad.

Well, we just got back from the doctor and yes, we're sick. There is a fetid smell, the pollen of hatred and bigotry, wafting through the air and our allergies are acting up. While there's no known cure, we've come up with something to treat the symptom, a healthy dose of electronic protest music, a middle finger from the underground to the future powers-that-be. Taken once a day, this pack can help to alleviate the symptoms of discrimination and demagoguery, whether from proto-fascist politicians or insecure music forum commenters.

“Rum” is a Danish word for space, room or reverb. For Danish composer Rumpistol, two huge driving forces behind his music are the search for beauty and the search for new sounds. These sonic and aesthetic curiosities, which can be firmly traced back to his self-titled 2003 debut, now considered a bit of an IDM classic, have taken him to many diverse fields of the electronic landscape. His melodic yet spaced-out music is often hard to categorize and he’s capable of doing anything from pure ambient sets, over groovy midtempo sets to energetic tech sets as well. Always 100% original material and always with a distinct live element. Rumpistol has performed his detailed sound across Europe, Mexico & Brazil including venues like Boiler Room UK and MUTEK Montreal. Apart from producing under the name Rumpistol, he also creates scores for film, theatre & contemporary dance. His music was used at the opening ceremony of the Paralympics in Rio 2016 and in 2017 he won a Danish Music Award Jazz for the album “Masala” with his band Kalaha. Since 2003 he has run the label Rump Recordings, showcasing mainly Danish electronic artists through a release span of more than 35 releases but he has also released on the renowned Berlin-based label Project Mooncircle, and Danish Iboga Records. Rumpistol has gained wide acknowledgement from people like John Peel (UK) and Laurent Garnier (F) to Om Unit (UK) & Tipper (UK) whom he shared stages with twice in 2017.

ALKHEMY’s The Black Hole turns three years-old, and to celebrate, the Brooklyn-based collective has called upon some of the mightiest in the galaxy to create this dance floor-ready compilation. The 27 artists featured on this VA were invited to participate by combining their signature production styles with a Black Hole-inspired twist, to showcase a range of the world’s raviest sounds. Over a third of the participating artists have headlined The Black Hole for their US debut or NY debut, including, Scan 7, Plural (Kukri), Keepsakes, D. Carbone, 138, Axel Picodot and WarinD. Each providing a nostalgic glimpse into their respective journeys through Brooklyn’s favorite galactic rave. The remaining artists have brought forth their own unique sounds, creating an undeniably powerful collection of tracks that will leave a lasting mark on 2019.

The compilation is just as diverse as the dance floors at The Black Hole and as well as the lineups assembled by ALKHEMY. Proudly bringing artists from the US, South America and Europe together. Another example of the power that lays behind unity.

The cover art, which was inspired by the iconic flyers of The Black Hole, who are always put together by Danny Garber, was designed by Detroit legend, Alan Oldham aka DJ T-1000. Being that ALKHEMY’s mission is to highlight diversity in techno, Alan carried on the tradition of The Black Hole’s flyers where people of color and women are showcased in a powerful manner. Keeping the mastering mainly in-house, 80% of the tracks were mastered by ALKHEMY’s Buzzi.
