Witnessing sina grace the decks at Inward Goods festival was a nostalgic luxury - I felt like I’d stepped into some form of magical Y2k swamp party, where only the best of early 2000s drum and bass were being thrown down. Sina’s contributions to the community extend beyond the decks and into the realm of party planning and label curation (Secret World) whilst also forming ⅓ of the band dregs. We have been eagerly anticipating the release of this podcast for quite some time. London-based Faery is a friend of Above Below, and we were blown away by her set at The Beacon stage, which marked the closing of Above Below 2022. After a dry weekend, the rain poured, forging the perfect environment for the psychedelic techno on display; it was as if Faery herself summoned the downpour.

Once again demonstrating her capacity to hypnotize, Faery has recorded a soundtrack for swamp-dwellers and forest-inhabitants alike. A transfixing hour of contagious groove and otherworldly sounds.

Next in our Live at C12 series is a double bill: Phanom and Daniel[i]. Listen to a one-hour excerpt of each set, recorded live at C12 on February 3 2024, when they played alongside Voices From The Lake (Donato Dozzy & Neel) for the C12 6 year anniversary party.

Phanom immerses you in a realm that oscillates between the dream state and reality.  She shapes her DJ sets like a ride to your inner self, from darkness to light to forget yourself in ether.

Daniel Danieli is a Belgian DJ and producer based in Aaachen (Germany). Having released on a few labels throughout the years, it’s on his own platform, Whispering Signals, that he has created his most recent concept of music, a place for him to experiment and host like-minded artists. Mixing the analog and digital world is key for Dan. The idea is to continuously sample his own library, until the patterns are clear enough to be used as a flow or groove. Tracks are created without following a fixed template or idea, but using a computer as a trusted companion to express and modify improvised feelings and jams that were created with analog gear or digital software.

Pleasure Planet's kaleidoscopic debut album has been a long time coming, but good things come to those who wait. Developed over years of late-night studio improvisations, 'Pleasure Planet' is an affectionate and colorful patchwork of the New York City-based trio's knotted influences that's suspended between the rave and the chill-out room, weaving glistening pads and chunky basslines into vocal earworms and warm, saturated rhythmic cycles. Bandmates Andrew Potter, Kim Ann Foxman and Brian Hersey enter into a lysergic dialog with their discrete personal musical histories, drawing inspiration from vintage EBM, ambient music and heady early '90s West Coast rave sounds and launching these classic elements into a transcendent new sonic universe.

Raised in the lush West Sichuan Basin and currently based in the energetic city of Shanghai: Temple Rat is a highly skilled producer, DJ and musician who pushes and innovates the fusion of forward thinking techno blended Chinese traditional music and  her own playing of the ancient two stringed Chinese instrument Ehru. 

Over the last few years Temple Rat has gathered fans from across the globe with her re-imagining of Chinese traditional music and in 2019 her debut Boiler Room attracted a great deal of attention as the magic of the music captivated the Shanghai club goers. 

Temple Rat released their debut project Spring Dawn in August 2019: The EP is a captivating work that continues to merge the two worlds of traditional and present day by using forward thinking beautifully recorded sounds and punchy perfectly mixed drums. The future is brighter than ever for China’s electronic music scene as it rapidly becomes one of the most exciting and prominent spaces for dance music in the world, and Temple Rat is for sure one of the brightest artists at the forefront.
