Test subject 1.25 @allurein of the beloved @neurocrankk collective, unearths a primordial dance between the hunter and it’s prey as they weave through an aberrant, glitching biosphere. A true narrative of survival where tension rises and falls as the hunt plays out through alien flora.

“I made the visual prompt my lock screen first and foremost, so that I’d be met with it every day. Any time I was listening to music it was right there; either to remind me to be listening for certain sounds I associated with the visual, or so that the visual would be so deeply engrained in my mind that I was always listening to music with a lens directly associated with the visual. 

I developed this sort of sci-fi story, of predator and prey that I felt came as a consequence of this relationship between the lushness of the visual; and the striking contrast of the sharp, grey, almost extra-terrestrial intrusions. Notwithstanding the embarrassment factor, it helped me create a narrative that I felt the interplay of songs could tell. 

I tried to imagine the strange sounds and animals that might arise, the ups and downs of my participation: haste, fear, exhilaration, and brief moments of tranquillity. As I said, it’s pretty embarrassing, but honestly it brought the visual to life and meant when looking for music, these were all the ways I wanted it to make me feel.

For me, the mix conveyed a story of survival in this glitched-out rainforest – a strange subsection prompting the discernment of what is artificial in an environment that was seemingly so close to a rainforest here on earth.”

Shame on you if you've slept on Pletnev's "And You Never Come Back EP" that was a joint release between my label Echocentric Records and the mighty R.A.N.D. Muzik! The ep pretty much sums up the sound of Alex - wonky, hypnotic and bass heavy. Currently living in Vilnius, Alex has a string of releases under his many aliases on such esteemed labels as Quintessentials, Futureboogie, Not an Animal + many others - check his discogs for full catalogue. Concept is a mix of ideas with contrasting sounds and ~NRGs.

The 1st part is on the downtempo tip with emotive, celestial and percussive IDM which is contrasted with hip-hop influenced bass-lines. (Up to 1:30)

The 2nd part aims to uplift the energy, using plenty of electro, dubby sounds and broken beats.

Today we mark our 10th Rotations Round (the sun), and we couldn't think of a better way to celebrate than with a mix from our first interstate guest, one of the bright minds behind the @neurocrankk parties in Naarm/Melb, Allure (aka Chris @allurein). After being blown away by Chris' mixes, it was clear to us that he's an incredible DJ with an ear for the most interesting sounds. For this mix, Chris has gifted us an absolutely epic, near two hour trip to the outer-realms and back again. He weaves through dreamy Italo-Disco, psychedelic downtempo, goa trance, and IDM - and even features some unreleased material from the other Neurocrank guys! Strap in for a hell of a ride <3
