A cue written specifically to the specified mood of 'sad'.
music and title had to match the emotion, cue is an ABAB form with a middle edit point before the octave melodic statement.

As part of a writing challenge I was using the mood "suspense". This cue pushes the boundaries between sound design and music but due it's usage of entirely musical components and no sound fx or foley I'm going to call it  a cue.
I see this fitting in a scene of espionage, emotional blackmail or gaslighting, or one of those scenes in 24 where Jack Bauer is trying desperately to figure out how to diffuse a WMD before it destroys half of the Eastern Seaboard:  )

This began as a student exercise in augmenting parts for a shoegazer style song. I liked what we came up with in a few seconds so I set up a couple mics, added a drum track and off we went.

This song is about all the places you might need to go to get away from a certain face meanwhile thinking about that face everywhere ya go!

A Threnody is a lament. This is a Threnody for the Victims of C-19, a play on the title of Penderecki's Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima.
It explores the range of emotions we are all feeling as we here the tragic stories of death and global sickness the hope of survivors and heroic actions, the disgust with humanity for pushing capitalist ideals to the brink of our demise and more.
In exploring these emotions I wanted to use a long form, in this case exactly 19 minutes, and to move through tension and release of dissonance and consonance, at times as unsettling as the news of the day, at other times as hopeful as a new dawn or a positive development in the search for a treatment.
This is not an easy time, this piece is not made to be an easy listen, but it is meant to reflect the slowing down of our world as we attempt to contain the spread of this virus and the death left in its wake!

Lane Arndt is a guitarist/multi-instrumentalist/producer living in Victoria B.C. 
A jazz guitarist became an experimental electronicist became a folk musician became an engineer/producer and sound designer and eventually turned into The Specialest!
Whether contracted to produce a unique electro-folk mash-up for those brave songwriters willing to admit to themselves and to the world that there is no reason to keep churning out the same old boring shit all the time or writing his own stuff or writing and sound designing for poetry, dance, theatre or film; The Specialest sound involves everything from fat synths, to banjo, to mashed-up and glitched out beats to glock, piano and guitars or varying sizes and shapes.
Have a listen but don't freak out when it doesn't sound like anything else you've ever heard before: )
