How is the mix reflecting your current music taste?
I always try to record mixes with a large variety of genres, so this mix moves from zouk and afro to italo and more classic disco. Still, I can go through some periods where I focus more on a genre, which is the case here with Zouk and Freestyle (latin / synth-pop genre from the late 80s).

For our 25th mix we're welcoming Amsterdam based selector DJ Tracksuit, who's supplied an hour and a half of beautiful world rhythms.

We've known Tim for a few years, having linked up previously when he did a mix for our 24 hour Live For Love fundraiser livestream during lockdown. His music taste and knowledge runs seriously deep, and is a DJ we're consistently blown away by. This mix is no different, and shows off his style and versatility.

DJ Tracksuit says: "I’ve been wanting to record this mix for a while but had troubles with turntables, tonearms, needles and in general, a very busy 2022. The result is a full vinyl mix of (mostly) psychedelic and percussive grooves from some of my favourite musical countries (Guadeloupe, Cape Verde & Haiti). Starting at 75 or so BPM all the way up to well over double that in a bit less than an hour and a half. I can imagine an Apricot Ballroom party have a similar (but more stretched out) progression! Protest music, slow & fast Gwo Ka or Zouk, Compas, Carnaval music. It’s all in there, including some of my all time favourite songs. Aram is a DJ from Amsterdam, who truly adores the boogie vibes of the early 80s, regardless of its country of origin, as long as there's a funky bassline somewhere. He also holds a deep appreciation for the afro synth of that era. As the night progresses, Aram transitions to spinning more house records, characterized by percussion, disco divas, and dreamy keys. The common denominator? It's got to be funky. One memorable evening, Aram walked into a festival tent where a departing group remarked, "It was too funky." To this day, he remains puzzled by that comment.

Neef Deef began selecting records in public ca. 2008, with a keen interest in the sound of young Jamaica of 1968; Early Reggae and Rocksteady. From 2010 to 2017, he and Rob Alpha hosted Rocksteady nights in Eindhoven. Over time, Neef Deef expanded his collection to include Soul, Funk, Latin, and Brazilian music. Now semi-retired, he returns to the decks for a few special occasions.

He is fascinated by the sound of unknown 60’s and 70’s music specially from Central America. Often on the road and trips back home he continues to look for old dusty forgotten records since 2011.

Bibiche, a DJ from Amsterdam, has a passion for disco that has evolved over the years to include various early 90s house genres, especially Italo (dream) house, deep house, and Latin house. Her heart also beats for Balearic and Brazilian sounds. It was during the Covid pandemic that she first stepped behind the decks, during her own organized festival weekend.Since then, Bibiche has continued to spin records, still evolving and refining her skills. This set is a blend of many genres that she likes, ranging from chill vibes to high-energy dancefloor bangers. However, it's the latter that she loves most.
