'Hip Hop is 40' - An Audio Visual Celebration
On August 11th 1973 the godfather of Hip Hop DJ Kool Herc threw a party that was to spawn a worldwide movement. In 2013 Hip Hop turns 40! 

To honour this DJ Woody launches his new audio-visual DJ show as an ode to the music and culture that changed his and so many others' lives over the last 4 decades. 

'Hip Hop is 40' chronicles and celebrates all things Hip Hop. 
From the original breaks to the first rap records and through the eighties, nineties and noughties party rockers up to todays future classics.

Building on his groundbreaking video DJ shows 'Turntables In Technicolor' and 'Big Phat 90's' and utilising his trademark edits, animations, graphics and World champion turntablist skills. This is Woody's most ambitious show to date!

I always had a different view of "West Coast Hip Hop". Living in San Francisco, I was always more influenced by the Bay Area sounds of Quannum Projects, Shadow, Spearhead and their brethren, than the neo-gangsta sounds of LA. That isn't to say that Tupac and Dre don't make appearances here, but this particular mix is dominated by the progressive underground, including some relative unknowns like Babu, DJ Design, Foreign Legion and Alkaholiks. One of the best mixtapes I ever laid down.

[ZemonK] - A Journey As A Bass

In 2009, I consulted for, and appeared in, Activision's DJ Hero video game.   As part of my involvement, I performed at quite a few industry events and eventually did a couple of club dates.  Some of these sets were more rehearsed than others, and the quality varied.  This one, recorded live on Halloween night at a KCRW benefit, was far and away my favorite of the bunch...both in terms of technical display and song selection.  I'll post some of the other recorded sets later, there's some nice moments along the way.- DJ Shadow
