The Infinite Land (Nieskończona kraina)

The Infinite Land is music written for voice and sine waves based on a text by Henry Vega.  In this piece, Vega creates a digital language that covers the spectrum between noise and pure sines, building a style that can be described as micro-minimal with mechanical aspirations. The text itself references the infinity of space in the universe still waiting to be discovered. It is illustrated musically by the repeated references to ‘the land’, ‘the sea’ and ‘the sand’.  The vocal part is sung with only three pitches ascending once through the piece.  This rising character is also seen in ascending sine waves which appear with increasing frequency in sections during the piece marking the connection with the voice.  In essence, the piece aims to illustrate a promising landscape for the future without appearing utopian or overtly idyllic.

The Infinite Land (Nieskończona kraina) to utwór napisany na głos i sinusoidy, oparty na tekście Henry’ego Vegi. Vega tworzy w nim cyfrowy język, który obejmuje spektrum pomiędzy hałasem a czystymi sinusami, tworząc styl, który można określić jako mikro-minimalistyczny, z dążeniem do mechanicznego. Sam tekst nawiązuje do nieskończenie wielkiego obszaru we wszechświecie, który nie został jeszcze odkryty. W warstwie muzycznej obrazują to nieustanne odwołania do „lądu”, „morza” oraz „piasku’. Partia wokalna opiera się jedynie na trzech tonach, które rosną raz w trakcie wykonywania utworu. Ten rosnący charakter cechuje też sinusoidy, których częstotliwość wzrasta w utworze, co zaznacza tym samym ich związek z partią wokalną. Utwór ma przedstawiać obiecujący pejzaż przyszłości, który nie jest ani utopijny, ani zbyt idylliczny.

Utwór Body Temple jest inspirowany utworem Cage'a  pt. Ryoanji. Wykonywany jest w naszym wydaniu przez trzyosobowy zespół, na perkusję elektroniczną, podkład (w wersji II), głos kobiecy, flet prosty i banjo (w III wersji). Wyszliśmy z założenia, że CIAŁO jest świątynią DUSZY. Toteż główny motyw rytmiczny odgrywany jest na ciele kobiety, a ściślej: na sensorach, sterujących elektronicznym, analogowym modułem perkusyjnym (typowy vintage, z lat 80-tych ub. wieku). Sensory umieszczone są na piersiach Marii Apoleiki, która jest jednocześnie wykonawczynią partii głosowej. Jednocześnie, każdy z instrumentów jest nieco przetworzony elektronicznie za pomocą efektów harmonizujących, które rozszerzają i uwspółcześniają brzmienie, zachowując jednak dość ascetyczną atmosferę japońskiej surowości. Podczas wykonania, autorzy starają się wczuwać w rodzaj medytacyjnego transu.

Body Temple is inspired by Cage’s piece Ryoanji. This piece is performed by three artists, with electronic percussion, background music (version II), female vocals, and an end-blown recorder and banjo (version III). We operate under the assumption that the body is the temple of the soul. Therefore, the main rhythmical motif is played on a female body, or more exactly – on sensors controlling a vintage analogue percussion module typical of the 80s. The sensors are located on the bosom of Maria Apoleika, who performs the vocals. At the same time, each instrument is electronically processed through harmonizing effects that render the sound broader and modern, while retaining an ascetic atmosphere of Japanese starkness. While performing the piece, the artists attempt to fall into a meditative trance.
