Three Hours Agony

This simple tune is a demonstration of an Eigenharp Pico setup which simulates an accordion. The Pico is split into two keygroups. The top keygroup generates accordion chords. The bottom keygroup sounds the melody notes (the piano keys). Even though both keygroups only have a few keys special fingerings allow minor chords and sharp notes, greatly enhancing the range of the Pico's keyboard. Sucking and blowing on the Pico's breath pipe simulates squeezing and drawing of the accordion's bellows, and each direction produces a slightly different sound. The base sound is Melodica in Omnisphere.

What shall we do with the drunken sailor?

This is a short cinematic track I made by combining percussive instruments with sounds I recorded on the Saddle Peak hike trail near Calabasas. The idea behind this track was to use sounds both in their raw and processed forms, creating a hybrid of evolving timbres and foley elements functioning as rhythmic counterparts. 

For this piece I used my Rhythmic Processing and Convolution Processing techniques to process each element and decided to use only Impulse Responses derived from those natural sounds and ambiences I recorded.

We Have All The Time In The World

My first recording using the ROLI Seaboard Grand. It‘s an arrangement of the main title music from “Game of Thrones,” by Ramin Djawadi.

My version is meant to sound as if it had been composed in the style of Philip Glass. Instead of 6/8 as in the original, this version is in 21/8, divided 5/5/5/6.

All tracks were played on the Seaboard, with the exception of a few of the drum tracks which were played on a Korg Wavedrum Global, using the “Viking War Drums” patch.

It's not the best demo of the Seaboard‘s capabilities, as it was just meant to be an initial test of the Seaboard as a studio production tool. It passed with flying colors; just wait until I begin posting my original work!

The Continuum Fingerboard probably has got the world's best violin synthesis. This unique key-less soft surface lets you push your sounds to life slowly, or quickly, depending on how you interact with the surface. Here's an experiment where I'm playing the opening of Mozart's widely known K465 string quartet known as Dissonance, due to it's, at the time, challenging and out of the ordinary harmonics. I wanted to see if this type of music is possible to play on a synth. And with the Continuum Fingerboard, I think it is possible!

As you can hear I'm playing without any auto tuning aid, to get the most authentic fretless sound. It takes some concentration to play in the right pitch - but it's also opening up for deliberately playing low, high, tempered, clean, with a personal vibrato etc. The sound becomes an extension of your fingers.

Make some Noise! 

Theme: Create a piece using noise as your main (or only) audio source. 

Submission window: Monday 4th March -> Monday 11th March (23:59:59)

Background:
Noise comes in various forms of randomness and color. Experiment with noise as your main audio source, or if you like the added challenge, as your only audio source this week. If you do not own or do not want to use the tangible waves NOISE module, feel free to send external noise audio signals into your AE Modular instead.


The challenge is set, and runs during the submission window set out above, however, please feel free to add entries or leave comments after the initial challenge has ended.

Each entry should contain:

    Link to audio or video example (embedded preferred)
    Short (or not so short) patch notes, explaining how you have built on the above theme



Your entry can be as short/long as you wish, a simple sound or a track, use external fx or synths, do what you can in the time you have - go wild, make the challenge yours!
You are welcome to use previous entries, as inspiration, build on them to form something new, or just use in a different way, you are welcome to submit multiple entries.

Maya in a Black and White Room - AE Modular Patch Challenge #9 Make Some Noise

The challenge was simply to play something that came to mind when looking at the picture (which is out of my studio window, using an IR filter).

All parts were improvised, although it took two passes as I couldn't set everything up at once. The AE Modular part is actually two sounds recorded live at the same time - one is a sequence from the SEQ16 with a well-modulated NYLE FILTER and the other is a Bastl Kastle using the same modulating LFO patched across and the whole thing passed through a modulated SVFILTER. Then there are the Mellotron parts, all played live but afterwards.
