Australian Kia very quickly rose up through the grimy after-hours rave scene of Melbourne to make her mark on the international stage. Now Berlin-based, her unique grasp of rhythm is rooted in a love of bass, IDM and deeper techno though she is adept at exploring a wide range of moods within those worlds. She has done so at places like ADE and our own festival and extends her good taste to the curation of her Animalia imprint and its ambient sub-label Cirrus as well as her own original tracks on Nous'klaer Audio.

In this week's mix, Kia showcases a colourful and kaleidoscopic take on techno which she says was awakened by an early trip to Japan's famously head Labyrinth festival. It's a hi-fidelity feast of supple rhythms, icy synths and deep space ambiance that unfolds in late-night fashion. The melodies are as delicate as silk, the drums rubbery yet punchy. It's high-paced future music that manages to be as delicate and beautiful as it is dynamic.

Spencer FM presents two hours of woozy, mind-warping disorientation, pulled from what witnesses describe as a six-hour basement séance that may or may not have triggered mild existential episodes. Listen as this Portland instigator blurs the line between left-field house abominations and dollar-bin minimal, leaving behind a trail of dazed dancers and broken dreams.

Spencer FM is a DJ, producer, and promoter based in Portland, Oregon. He currently runs the Madrugada party series and record label. Prior to Madrugada, he founded Occasion, Orchard, and Canyon Vibration. In spring 2025, he released an EP on Madrugada that has seen support from the likes of Massimiliano Pagliara, Powder, nd_baumecker, and Skatebård, among others.

ローマ出身、プロデューサー／DJ。幼少時代には既に音楽のとりこになっており（13歳の時には、既にレコード収集家！）いつも音楽と学業に打ち込んでいた。2000年には政治学の博士課程を修了し、音楽への情熱をプロレベルまで引き上げ、長年に渡り独特のDJスタイルを磨き上げてきた。1999年以降のローマBrancaleoneでの"residential stints"や、2004年から2006年の間にはafterhours specialistとしてベルリン"Panoramabar"でのPLAYが彼の歩んできた歴史に刻まれている。プロデューサーとしては初期作のKitchen Tools (Virgin, 2001)以降、ベルリンの Orangegroove、Lan Muzic、ローマの Elettronica Romana、DozzyRecords、Rayliard Rec、Wagon Repair、Geophone records、Persona Records、そして友人のNuel. ─ミックスの録音環境を教えてください。

2010年1月29日に、東京のUNITで行われた「MOKMAL SOUND PRESENTS 420TOUR×ART」でのプレイを、Rolandのデジタルレコーダー” EDIROL R-09”でレコーディングしたものだよ。たくさんの人が来場してくれてすばらしいパーティーだったよ。


─このミックスのコンセプト、アイデアなどを教えてください。

音楽とともに「旅へ」―これがコンセプト。これは、パーティーから発せられたエネルギーから即興的に生まれたんだ。このポッドキャストのために、トータル4時間プレイした中から一部分を選んだよ。


─近況と最近の活動について教えてください

“Further Records”から今年の終わりころにリリースされる、僕自身のファーストソロアルバムの制作に取り掛かっているよ。”Further Records”は本当にクールなロンドンのレコードショップ／レーベルなんだ。このアルバムは、最初にカセットテープ、そしてそのあとにCDとヴァイナルでリリースされる予定だよ。

No introductions necessary for installment number two in our series of recordings from the booth. Enclosed is just under three hours of hard music from two members of UR that we were lucky enough to have come through at the end of March.

The recording is split into two parts. The high-octane, acidic, psycho stuff in this section comes courtesy of Dex Nomadico, who played during the first half of the party. And the raw, thumping, soulful sounds in the other section are taken from the last hour or so of Mark Flash's set – just as daylight broke through. 

Big respect and praise due to the whole UR family for letting us air these out and to all the dancers who gave this one their energy.
