Posture is the foundation of the way of meditation. Firstly sitting meditation should be done sitting up straight with relaxed muscles. Good alignment and a sense of ease. Also this posture should be regal and majestic, bring a sense of nobility to the practice. We are reclaiming our ancient heritage of primordial wisdom and power when we sit in meditation. Sitting is a powerful gesture of stillness and wisdom. This posture of stillness, grace and ease can be brought into everything you do. Meditation on the go is simply holding good posture. The mental flexibility that comes from mindfulness meditation is valuable in all areas of your life. Put simply you gain control over your mind rather than it controlling you.

The key to this meditation is to become aware of awareness. We are using the light of awareness to illuminate itself so we can notice this amazing dimension in ourselves. Awareness is the most fundamental level of our being. It is always present, it is the bases of all experiences yet we easily lose ourselves in what awareness sees rather than notice awareness itself.

We are looking for something that is clear and which knows. Awareness is like a mirror it is difficult to see the mirror itself, it is much easier to notice what appears in the mirror. So we must get a sense of it, feel it, intuitively notice it. We don't actually see it with our eyes but it is what allows our eyes to see. Thinking about awareness is different from directly experiencing it. We must do our best in this meditation to experience and directly contact awareness itself.

Letting go of pre-conceived ideas allows a new type of knowing and sensitivity to arise. It could be called a beginner's mind or even no-mind.

- This meditation is a beautiful exercise in accepting yourself and accepting others. It is nearly impossible to experience deeper levels of peace and serenity when you are holding a grudge or are angry at yourself or someone else. Understanding this, we work to totally forgive ourselves and others, even if it's just for the duration of the meditation and find that catharsis of bliss that comes from putting down such a heavy burden as resentment.

The key to this meditation is how it feels. This is not a moral exercise on whether you or someone else deserves to be forgiven instead this is an experiential exercise to experience what it's like to not have any resentment, blame or anger. This is to become familiar with a blameless and accepting way of being. A totally unconditional type of love that accepts yourself and others completely. This is all done from the safety of your home and imagination. Understanding healthy boundaries and that some behaviour is not appropriate is important too, but during this meditation we are experiencing the sublime and divine presence of unconditional love and forgiveness.

Mystics who have discovered this truth speak about feeling huge like they are the entire universe without boundaries. It is this direct experience of spaciousness that we are trying to achieve. But because it is already who you are there is a skill of just surrendering and falling back into the great void and being it.

There is a meditation proverb that says "...when you look for your awareness the best thing to find is nothing."

If you let go a little you will experience a little bit of peace, if you let go a lot you will experience a lot of peace if you let go completely you will be completely at peace.
