Kiosk Radio, Radio Raheem and Radio 80000 will host 25AV platform's selected artists for a series of exclusive mixes and selections inspired by their musical world airing simultaneously across the three stations. 

Today we host Belgian-based communication designer practicing queer publishing Noam Youngrak Son and Colette Aliman (NL) sonic artist, researcher and designer working within Rotterdam.

In the early 1980s there began an obsession among experimental synth musicians with the exploration of sounds relating to cosmic voyage. Less about ‘heaven’ than it was about the mystery of a never-ending and unknowable universe, these sounds began to unearth buried feelings about our experiences related to being human souls bound within a vast physical dimension. This boom was no doubt partly in response to the images of our planetary system being sent back from the Voyager Space Probe while a great deal of westerners were still experimenting with LSD and other psychotropic drugs.

Around the same time that these synth musicians were beginning to mutate the pastel New Age sound into a darker form of exploratory ambient, a recently liberated pocket of queer deviants were emerging from a Flower Power head rush and beginning to develop a new road map of identity through the existential practices of S/M and leathersex. Connected through the veins of a countercultural underground, both of these subversive factions in society contributed to a deeper understanding of our experiences as seekers and as lovers. 

This 2 1/2 hour mix investigates the ambient synth soundscapes of that era through the lens of two sadomasochistic experiences which together create an erotic scene: the terrestrial wizard, pegged here as the Dungeon Master, and his daft ingénu, Star Boy, who is on a quest for answers about the cosmos through rose-tinted glasses.

Put in simpler terms by Carol Truscott in her essay on SM: “Whether we spin, ride swings, dance, receive communion, meditate, practice alpha wave control, get our tits tortured, whip ass, or fuck, the ecstasy we seek and achieve is the same kind of change of consciousness programmed into the genetic pattern of all human beings.”
