1. We absolutely loved your mix! May we ask what your main inspirations are and started collecting and playing music? 

So happy that you loved it! There were two occasions where I had a musical experience that completely blew my little mind. The first one: I heard Kraftwerk’s ‘The Man Machine’. I’d gotten it as a birthday present from my Aunt on my 13th birthday, she’d gifted it to me on the promise “This will change your life.” It actually really did. My Mom had a really thumping stereo system at the time and I remember so clearly just sitting in the middle of our living room, on the floor, being totally annihilated by sounds I’d never heard before. Every music-obsessive has one of these spark-to-gasoline moments that ignites a flame in you, and this was mine. I instantly bought everything they’d ever made and indoctrinated myself with synthesizers. 1978 had never sounded so new, but also never further away. I honestly just stopped consuming anything new. This kick started a so far life-long obsession with digging for music. I was constantly searching for similar music. Eventually I got really into early electronics and minimal wave, which then led to Italo-disco of course, and suddenly and quite by coincidence hit a wall that changed everything again for me: disco and the beginnings of house music. Sassmouth is a DJ based in her longtime adopted home, Chicago. She playfully mixes all kinds of records with a focus on techno, house, acid and electro sounds. She created her label @god-particle-vinyl as a homage to this style of DJing- a place for friends to showcase music that connects the dots between all these styles of dance music. She is a rave mom and real mom and co-runs Walking and Falling- a mentor program for woman and non-binary music enthusiasts that want to learn to DJ. The promoter behind Portland's Switch Dance Party and co-founder of Brooklyn's young techno showcase TechTonics, Novail has been hard at work establishing themself in the bi-coastal queer dance scene. Since landing in Brooklyn, Novail has been an active contributor to the underground rave network, working in production with the notorious UNTER party while producing, promoting and supporting a variety of other nights themselves. As a DJ, Novail is active in both the underground techno scene and the queer house scene, curating across a broad range of sonic space between hypnotic environments with dripping, dubby, acidic dimensions and cunty grooves with jacking rhythms and classic elements. Seen behind the decks in places such as Portland's Holocene, NY's Bossa Nova Civic Club, the Chernobyl Warehouse and beyond, Novail is an artist committed to the process of listening, learning, contributing and carrying forward the legacy of those who have come before. 

From Novail - Big thank you to othrwrld for the space to share this through Club Liminal. For this mix I wanted to explore a deep, drippy, hypnotic and wet realm of exploration, yearning and mystery, infused with some sass, sexiness and a hint of rebellion. Wading through the murky unknown depths of the day to day with the intention of seeking understanding while being open to change and difference has helped me develop comfort within the unknown and an eagerness to discover. I hope through this mix some of that discovery can be shared with those who listen.

A new mix...for a project that has been sitting around. @bodyzone is something I started where I released two mixtapes of original music back in 2020. Four years later, I thought it was only fitting to start this up again by releasing a recording dedicated to the Midwest since the actual 'Body Zone' is a gay bathhouse located in Detroit which is a 5 minute drive to Menjos where the infamous Club Toilet parties take place.

This mix is a reflection of the set I played when I was invited this last year in 2023. Through all the practice sessions and preparations I made to get myself up on that stage, I found a few decent recordings and versions of what I played that night during Movement weekend. Consider this my Club Toilet retrospective.

Blush aims to help soothe the queer spectrum and focus on the well-being of the community. Queer DJs are invited to submit a mix to showcase an alternative side to their music library outside of a rave and take us on a meditative journey. ✨

Notes on the mix:

"The past two years have been about change for me.  After living in Texas for many years I moved to San Francisco.  While driving out west I was reflecting on the move I made twelve years ago. I was going the opposite direction- from Los Angeles to Austin.  I remember the feeling of excitement and nervousness as I was shifting my life in such a big way. Also as a queer person it felt counter-intuitive to move from what was supposedly a liberal place (California) to a more conservative one (Texas). When I passed the border into Texas it was dusk, but it felt like the sun took hours to actually set.  A distinct memory was listening to Oneohtrix Point Never's "Returnal '' and the album enhanced the slow motion feeling of being in a foreign landscape of rolling hills and heaving clouds.  It's a feeling that stuck with me and with this mix I am exploring what it felt like to make the drive in reverse, heading back to California for different opportunities.  This is mix is very much about the experience of anticipation I projected onto the landscape."

Mouthfeel is a DJ, film maker, and HIV activist living in San Francisco.  With his partner, he puts together the party and publication Service. Before his recent move to California he was a defining voice in Austin, Texas's underground queer nightlife scene.  He is a co-founder of the Contrast Film Festival which celebrates film, multimedia art, and performance from women and queer artists.  He also helped produce Double Scorpio's series of raves and created Y'All Or Nothing, a one day festival of queer counter-programing mounted for ten years during South by Southwest. In 2022 he premiered his first feature film, Erica's First Holy Shit.
