 “Hammerspace” is a fan-envisioned extradimensional, instantly accessible storage area in animated, comic and game fiction, which is used to explain how characters can produce objects out of thin air. (Think about in Space Jam when Bugs Bunny somehow miraculously pulls a basketball out from his…pocket?). I remember hearing about this concept and wanting to write a piece that included random chords, spontaneously crashing in to interrupt the form of the song, seemingly “out of thin air”. Rajiv, Stu, Christian and Hans did a remarkable job not only capturing this idea, but navigating an extremely difficult solo section. Level 5 Jazz.

“Butterbritches” is a song dedicated to a very close friend of mine….well, his dog actually. Written about 5 years ago, I wanted to immortalize not only one of my favorite pups, but also one of the best names for an animal (or human) I’ve ever heard: Captain Bear Butterbritches (yes, that is his full legal name). This did not make the final album cut, however the happy, upbeat, New Orleans-style party theme seems like something we could all use a dose of right now. This also puts my dog-themed songs up to a count of about 5. I’m sensing another sort of album soon….
