Cactusman - Love, Life
Some of our older readers may recall Cactusman, a Tyneside troupe who first hit the circuit in the '90s before succumbing to the demands of family life.  Now that their terrors are all grown up, the group have rebooted, with new songs in tow and a pair of fresh-faced additions in vocalists Bethany Walker and Adam Bosworth.  It's the former who fronts Love, Life, a fond, nostalgic reflection of an evening some 24 years ago when guitarist Ian Fawdon met his wife at the Bridge Hotel.  Inevitably, it carries a distinctly '80s vibe, with Walker's crystal-clear voice staged before a cool bed of synths and a melody whose simplicity only augments its charm.  There's even a taste of the pubs' juke box as we suddenly segue into Radio Ga Ga - a turn which could have made for a clunky add-on but is instead incorporated into an evoctive scene-setting conclusion.  Lovely stuff.
