After an amazing Sonar in our home city of Barcelona, This and That are back and raring to go with our fifth release. We really excited to welcome Prudo & Nibiru into our ever-growing family. They are great guys and have made some really special music for this release. Our friends Alfa Romero, Philip Bader, Dyed Soundorom and Audiofly have all provided excellent remixes to make sure that this is a package that we are all super excited about at This and That.

Prudo & Nibiru is the collaboration between one of our most admired producers Marzio Aricò (Prudo) and exciting trumpet player / electronic producer Andrea Guzzoletti (Nibiru). Both of these super talented Italians work together at Alfa Romero Recordings and we find them working together in perfect synergy once again on “I’ve Got The Feeling.” Built around a groovy bassline, swirling sonics, punchy beats and climatic vocals, the track magnifies into a soulful, colourful burst of underground house. Prudo teams up with fellow Alfa Romero partner Lorenzo Bartoletti for an excellent rework that stretches out the vocals, taking us on an unrestrained trip that feels every bit like a live performance as it does a dancefloor tune.

Prudo & Nibiru’s “Time To Go back” will be released on the vinyl only package in September, but we are excited to present three remixes of it on the digital package “right here, right now.” First up, firm This and That member Philip Bader turns in a typically idiosyncratic rework, founded on funky percussion, fluid basslines and improvisational, jazz-like synth work. Dyed Soundorom takes things into deeper territory with subterranean bass, driving 4/4s, hi-hats and snapping rhythms. It’s a perfect example of why we love Dyed’s sound so much here at This and That. Our Barcelona buddies Audiofly close the EP with a wonderfully unique remix that breathes new life into the original. Highly textured and sonically off the charts, we are not sure if this was made in outer space or somewhere in the future. All we know is that we love it and we can’t stop playing it! 

Continuing our work with Galleria Fonti in Napoli, we are delighted to present the latest cover art, this time provided by the incredibly talented Seb Patane. Like much of his work, this piece plays on notions of performance seen in decontextualized contexts and on contrasting ideas of the animate juxtaposed over a sense of deadness.

Davide Squillace's 'This And That' label show their diversity in sound and musicality as they present a house infused EP with distinctive melodic sounds and catchy vocals from Italian artist Allen(IT).

Previously releasing on the likes of Snatch!, ViVa Music, CUFF, Toolroom and Club Sweat, Allen(IT) has established his name with an array of electronic sounds regularly showcasing in Ibiza, Berlin, Moscow, Miami and at home in Italy.

'It's Something EP' features two beautiful house cuts, 'Heart' and 'It's Something', both inspired by the '90s house vibe but with a current sound, perfectly mixing analog synths, captivating vocals and powerful melodies.

Revered production duo Italoboyz are to kick off their 2014 with the release of a two-track, stellar EP 'La Ondasa’, also featuring bonus remixes from G Man and Nicone & Sascha Braemer on Davide Squillace’s infamous This and That label.
With hard-edged techno rhythms, chopped vocals and bags full of dance floor groove, 'Afrodite' rolls along at electric pace. Intermittent synth line running throughout. Precision-engineered and purpose built for the clubs, these are another tracks that should earmark Italoboyz as go-to names for the best in slick, tech-house club sounds.
Since arriving in London at the beginning of the new millennium, Italoboyz, aka Marco Donato and Federico Marton, have become an essential fixture of the capital’s passionate house/techno/minimal scene. This and That Lab is a think tank, created and curated by Davide Squillace that combines music, art and culture and blends them all in one, a label that acts as a platform for Davide and other like minded artists to develop creative projects. Under the umbrella of the creative think tank that is ’This & That’, Davide Squillace and Philip Bader have joined forces to create two new club cuts; ’14.000 KM away’ and ‘Free the Visa’. Fuelled with an energetic tech-house beat, the pair’s latest collaborative efforts prove once again that they are a dynamite production dream team.

Bader and Squillace teamed up for the first time in September 2012 receiving an overwhelming reaction to their original release ‘Wild Things’. The track had a hypnotic, underground club vibe that impressed ravers and reviewers worldwide. Philip guaranteed it wouldn’t be the last time they made music together and as promised the guys have reunited in the studio to make music once again.

This month This And That present our newest podcast mixed by the italian duo Haiku 575. Haiku is a Japanese lyric verse form containing three unrhymed lines of five, seven, and five syllables, traditionally invoking an aspect of nature or the seasons.
Haiku 575 is the musical vision of this poetry style: 5 are the lines in a music sheet. 7 are the notes. 5 are the senses. 
Haiku 575 is a duo composed by M_Abbatangelo (label manager and co-owner with Davide Squillace of This And That Lab) and Cipy (a veteran producer and long-time member of the Get Physical and Kinsdisch family), who after more than a decade of friendship decided to go into the studio together to pursue a common musical vision: titles composing a poem, and a sound that errs on the minimal side of the spectrum while maintaining a deep, melodic groove and a penchant for harmonies. 
Haiku 575 is based in Barcelona but influenced from the world.

County of Milan label-owner Marcelo Burlon has teamed up with producer and DJ Davide Squillace for a unique collaborative project, 'Gualicho'.
Comprised of a single release and a limited edition run of t-shirts and bracelets, 'Gualicho' symbolises both Marcelo's and Davide's mutual passion for hybridising electronic music with art and cultural motifs and provides a rare insight into the pairs reciprocal relationship. Both DJs and creatives amongst many other things - Marcelo cut his teeth as a DJ and PR before forming his laudable County of Milan label, and Davide an esteemed producer, DJ and head of artistic think-tank This And That Lab - their collaboration pays homage to their individual repertoires.
In its production form, Marcelo & Davide offer a tribal-infused techno rhythm that's built around a cosmic bassline and powerful drum-beats. A sophisticated but atmospheric offering, 'Gualicho' showcases Davide's ability to craft mesmeric techno that maintains the soul of Burlon's iconic artistry - with the release also forming the soundtrack to his upcoming woman's collection to be shown in Milan.
Translating into physical form, 'Gualicho's branding is an
amalgamation of Burlon's striking wing motif and Davide's musical influence that's represented via various DJ iconography, drawing influences from tribal cultures and tropical colours that are designed to reflect the soul of this cultural hybrid.
Available to purchase since September, after the project launch during Milano and Paris Fashion week, the collaboration between Marcelo and Davide marks an exciting 2015 for the two contemporaries.

Canadian DJ/Producer Carlo Lio has released his 3-track EP, ‘Endless Grey’ on Davide Squillace’s famed label, This And That. Continuing on from his favoured ‘Technicolour Boogie’ EP, Carlo has maintained his relentless, hypnotic, techno groove with this release.

The EP kicks off with ‘A Beautiful Nightmare’. The track slowly builds into a mesmerizing piece of tech house. With a pulsating bassline and reverbed vocals sprinkled throughout the track, ‘A Beautiful Nightmare” gives a perfect introduction to the EP.

‘All Things Must Change’ brings another serving of Tech House. A gentle repeated piano melody fused with a strong bassline carries you through the track. A selection of warped and reverbed vocals gives the track a dark atmosphere.

Rounding off the EP, ‘Krypt Walka’ is filled with various percussion, high pitched synth notes and robotic vocals.

TNT PodcastSeries #012 - Re.You

This And That is a label dedicated to Techno and House music. Ran by Davide Squillace, as well as being one of the world’s leading DJ’s, he is also an influential producer whose music can be found on No.19 Music, Hot Creations, Moon Harbour, Desolat, VIVa MUSiC, Minus and pretty much any other scene leading label you can think of.

Previous releases on This and That have included music from the likes of Carlo Lio, Riva Starr, Carl Cox, Lee Van Dowski, Guti, Re.You, Doorly plus Jesse Rose, and this new release welcome's back Basti Grub for his second release on the label.

German born Basti Grub has previously released on imprints such as Kling Klong, Kittball, Desolat, Cocoon, Get Physical and Moan, where his stripped back production style has proved popular with the likes of Ricardo Villalobos, Loco Dice and Luciano.

Basti Grub’s eclectic sound incorporates everything from exotic African vocals to dub Reggae and relaxed piano passages, which along with his interesting use of voices and song structure combine to create his unique and distinctive production style. 

Dancefloor focused and with tribal drums, this House focused release also features a collaboration with Mike Trend and guest vocals from Schtu.

The EP’s title track “I Only Like You” has a dark vibe and hypnotic vocals that sung in almost a whisper, fill the track with a menacing euphoria. The rolling groove provided by the intricate drum rhythms and rumbling bass line is carefully programmed to be both eloquent and energetic. Quirky with just a touch of chic, this stunning tracks sums up the outstanding quality of the release.

Track two “`Stand Up” fuses a verity of different vocal textures that on their own would sound soothing and soulful, but combined with the spooky melody they give the track an eerie feel. This unnerving combination creates a captivating sense of excitement and thrilling suspense. Spacious production and intricate notation provide the finishing touches to this shimmering masterpiece.

The third track titled “Come On And Do” is a collaboration with Mike Trend who boasts solo outings on Amazing Music and has previously collaborated with Basti for releases on Kina Music and a number of other scene leading labels. Come On And Do has a laid back vibe with soft vocals that washed harmony, are gentle and calming. Warm pads help keep things chilled and some interesting key changes add some subtle Jazz influence.

Finishing the release is “Li Di” which features the mystifying vocal chants of Schtu, who has previously worked with Basti for a release on Bar25 Music. Lead by fast flowing tribal drums, the track has a primal feel with a raw and primitive sound. Simple and straight to the point, this taps into the core of what makes people dance with an energetic, infectious groove tailor made for the dancefloor.

'This and That' is a House and Techno label run by the iconic Davide Squillace who is an Italian DJ at the forefront of the world’s electronic music scene.

Following releases that featured Skream, Riva Starr, Carl Cox, Guti, Doorly and Jesse Rose, this new release comes from Yousef and Harry Romero. 

Yousef has previous releases on Desolat, BPitch Control, Cocoon, Defected and Cécille, along with releases on his own Circus Recordings, he also has forthcoming music already signed to Crosstown Rebels, Knee Deep in Sound and Hot Creations.

Yousef is a resident headliner at his legendary Circus event in his native Liverpool, which in 2017 rolls into its 15th year. Circus champions only the finest in House and Techno, where this year embarks on its first worldwide tour, and will be hosting over 15 events in places like Berlin, New York and Sydney, plus a 10,000 capacity arena at the Parklife Festival in Manchester.

Yousef continues to show a multi artistic approach towards all his projects, from his involvement in an amazing 3D surround sound show for Dolby, to his weekly radio show '21st Century House Music' which is broadcast in 50 countries to a weekly listenership of 20 million people.

Collaborating with Yousef for two out of the three tracks on this release is American born Harry Romero who is also known to some as Harry 'Choo Choo' Romero.

Harry is no stranger to Electronic music, boasting releases on labels including Subliminal, Nervous, Saved Records and Tronic. A previous collaboration with Yousef can be found on Jamie Jones and Lee Foss' label Hottrax, with this the much anticipated follow up.

“Sloppy Kiss” is all about the stomping bassline. Thick set and heavy, it provides the tracks driving force. Delicate synths rattling with delay build to the main break, where pad stabs are introduced to lift the track. Tailor made for the club, this clean cut slice of House music is a sure fire crowd pleaser.

“For The Rev” has chopped up vocal textures combined with some bassline funk and soulful phrases both male and female. Sweeping strings add to the emotional tapestry and medley of textures that combine to create its infectious groove. Intricate and distinctive, this is a dancefloor focused track has been master crafted to perfection.

“Yeah” is a solo outing from Yousef and takes its title from the pitched down vocal that sits at the centre of the track. The free flowing rhythms have a strong tribal influence that combine with additional vocals spoken in husky tones to complete the track. The percussion wraps the core elements in a sea of movement to submerge the listener in a tide of dancing.

New on Davide Squillace's label This And That Lab is the second in the series of their mixed artist release “Spring Summer Fall Winter”, and this is part "A” of the latest edition that features original tracks from Davide Squillace, Anja Schneider, Lancaster, Nandu, SB-Unit and Francesco Mami.

Planning to release one for each season of the year, every edition is split into two volumes titled “SSFW #2A” and “SSFW #2B” with a focus on textures both audible and visual, and each release will be a combination of fresh talents with veteran artists.

Label boss Davide Squillace who is fresh from his recent album on Crosstown Rebels, opens the EP with a collaborative track made with Lancaster whose back catalogue features music on imprints including Saved Records and Get Physical.

Second of the tracks comes from Mobilee Records boss Anja Schneider who along with tracks on her own label, has contributed to other outlets such as Knee Deep In Sound and Moon Harbour. Many also know her as a radio show host and headline DJ playing many of the world’s top clubs and festivals.

The third track is from Nandu whose distinctive production style has been a regular feature of This And That Lab along with other labels including Constant Circles, Stil Vor Talent, Kindisch and Rebirth.

Closing off SSFW #2A is a track from SB-Unit and Francesco Mami who have previously joined forces for a release on Sunclock. Francesco Mami is also a solo producer boasting a back catalogue that features labels such as Dantze, Lauter Unfug, Rhythm Cult and LIKE.

Davide Squillace and Lancaster’s track titled "Rockin'" has a deep and tribal sound that leads nicely into Anja Schneider’s “Touch”, which keeps the percussive flow but also adds eloquent dreamy synth melodies to lift the mood. Nandu’s cut of quirky house “Cosmic Agenda” has his trademark shuffling grooves with a stripped back sound and subtle dub techno influence. SB-Unit and Francesco Mami’s “Atoll” has a synth lead melodic groove with Balearic elements that are the perfect way to close off the first half of the release.

Basti Grub is a regular feature of This and That Lab having featured on many of the labels previous releases along with other noteworthy imprints including SCI+TEC, Stil Vor Talent, Mobilee, Bar 25 Music and Desolat.

This is the first time Basti Grub and Davide Squillace have ever collaborated together, but both have previously worked with many other artists including the likes of Guti, Timo Maas, Eric Volta, Butch and Matthias Tanzmann. The tracks on this EP also feature the vocals of Julian Smith.

“Play Thing” opens the EP with a sleazy vocal intermingled with the melodic groove of a pulsating synth line. Building momentum, the introduction of epic chords creates a contrast of brooding atmosphere and uplifting melody. Tribal style percussion adds to the uniqueness of this eccentric cut of dance floor focused house music.

“Let's Go Deep” brings the funk with its bassline and cheeky melody sound. Hypnotic with just the right amount of grit, there is an exquisite blend of percussive textures at play, but it’s the vocal which really gives the track its personality. Quirky and brimming with personality, it’s got a seductive style that brings intimacy to a peak time style that blurs the line between a mixture of sub genres.

Davide Squillace's label This And That Lab is proud to present a three track EP from Quenum, who has also featured tracks on trendsetting imprints such as Transmat, Cocoon, Fabric, Get Physical and Crosstown Rebels.

Originally from Geneva in Switzerland but currently based in London, Quenum boasts many accomplishments in the music industry, including being co-founder of the iconic Cadenza label which he runs in collaboration with Luciano.

Not only is he a label owner and accomplished producer, but he is also a talented DJ who has played all over the world including places like the original Tresor and Panorama Club in Berlin.

'We Are Together' is the first of the three tracks, and its dramatic opening combines distinctive synth stabs with gospel style vocals that sing of unity and togetherness. Stripped back and filled with a swelling tension, this moody cut has a delightfully dark atmosphere.

Lifting the mood, 'Like A River' has a warm and uplifting vibe with shimmering pads and ethereal textures leading towards a spiritual breakdown that's both poetic and eloquent. Chic and timeless, this cut blends old school flavours with contemporary ideas

Finishing off the EP is 'Never Take The Easy Way', which is a melodic cut that's jerking groove is filled with trippy rhythms and glitchy textures. Finishing with a sprinkle of charisma, this magically understated piece of music is both quirky and brilliant.

Davide Squillace's label This And That Lab welcomes back German artist Niconé, featuring the incredible voice of Irish native Enda Gallery!

An artist who needs no introduction, Niconé’s consistent sound has made him a regular on labels such as Bar 25 Music, Dantze and Katermukke. His music cannot be defined simply by a genre, but rather a feeling . Enda’s prominent voice has quickly gained attention, with various releases and collaborations on Bar 25, Einmusika and others. We are happy to welcome him on board!

The EP comprises the original "Temporary Illusion” in two versions, Running and Clomping, with vibrant melodies, hypnotic arpeggios and catchy, resonating vocal hooks.

It also features an electric Davide Squillace remix. A sublime reinterpretation, with nods to old school sounds, and lost nights on the dance floor.

Davide is not available for comment. He’s got to catch a flight; he’s rushing to the studio; the stage manager is frantically hurrying him into the booth; he’s meeting to discuss plans for his labels…or any of the other myriad reasons why Davide feels like he hasn’t slept, eaten or stopped running for what seems like his whole life.

Born in Siena, raised in Naples, it took a trip to London for Davide to finally discover electronic music. Wooed by the mood and sound of the British scene, he returned to Naples flush with energy, excitement and a knowing that this new calling would consume him. 

Davide immersed himself in this world in every conceivable way. In 1999 he began studying at the Naples’ school of sound engineering, tinkering with his first productions, promoting techno events, and finally performing. His first releases on Primate Records, Design Music andConform were a cadence of his arrival and showcased the young artist’s steadfast style.

Having honed his craft at home, in 2004 Davide left Naples for Barcelona unwavering in his resolve. Now, while touring around the continent, he began to release in earnest what would become a massive body of work, and at a dizzying pace. His productions have graced the catalogs of some of the finest labels including Ovum, Sci+Tec, Morris Audio, Resopal Schallware, Supernature, CMYK, Adagio, Viva, Nervous, Saved, Shake, Rillis; the list goes on… 

Added to that, you have to take into account the labels which Davide founded and still curatestoday – Sketch, Minisketch, Vir, 500, Titbit and Hideout. 2012 sees the start of Davide’s latest innovative project. This and That Lab will be a unique fusion of label and think tank combining music, art and culture used as a platform for Davide and other like minded artists to develop creative projects in music, visual art, design, fashion and writing.

In addition to his genre-defining works, Davide continues to inspire and ignite dancefloors worldwide. Whether it be at Circoloco, where he has been a resident since 2007, Womb, Berghain, D.Edge, or any other marquee venue, Davide plays with an unequalled funk and excitement. His signature sets, revered by the masses and peers alike, do a double duty in guarding our much-loved traditions while constantly pushing them forward.

The realm of possibilities for one of electronic music’s leading lights is endless. Unfortunately, the minutes in the day are not. Davide’s answer is simple – do what you love and make no compromises.
