Leipzig-based Kontinum returns to Crescent for a Terra Incognita EP full of depth and delicate elements, the trademark of his exceptional production. “Kapteyn”, “Luyten” and “Palindrome”, the three original tracks, display various shades of ethereal atmospheres, with subtle drums navigating in and out, taking the listener into the atmospheric world of the German producer. On the remix side, London-duo Abstract Man brings a club approach to “Luyten”, hypnotic yet subtle, while Biocym’s “Afternoon Mix” of “Kapteyn” closes the EP with a beautifully syncopated rhythm.

Since 2017, Minjoon has been fascinated by the joining of his painting awareness and primitive techno. His theme is to find an
ambiguous balance based on the extreme paradoxes of "Unfamiliar familiar". Ambiguous colors are not a visual sense, but appeal to another sense of energy.

Minjoon is also currently working as a designer/artist at Artscope. After his first debut EP in 2021, he has been continuously searching for the sound he has.

A few years ago, Axis Alpha’s strong relationship to hypnotic rhythms began to take shape. In his latest addition for Báze podcast series he shows what hypnotic techno means to him as a whole. 19 carefully 
selected tracks best match his vision of this style ranging from deep sounds to darker atmospheres. From the very beginning it invites you to join a journey full of feelings while showcasing the variety of sounds, patterns and rhythms in this interesting genre of music.

Axis Alpha’s story starts at one of the Polygon’s event nights. Based on the immersive experience there he decided to start djing and mixing techno. He used to play dub techno, minimal, house and even a little bit of disco or faster trancey tunes but it was the hypnotic techno which slowly began to take precedence over others in his work. In 2020 he helped forming RUSH27 label that has organized several events so far and where he was a resident DJ. During 2021 he was a part of the infamous Čičinek II crew and you could also see him performing in places like Cross club, Kave or Nero.

- Where were you born and raised?

I was born in north-east of Bohemia where I spent my whole childhood, after I graduated I moved to Prague to study and enhance my musical journey. This is the time when I first came in touch with electronic music and especially fell in love with trippy techno.

- Describe your music journey with few statements. How everything started and how you ended up to electronic music. Which factors shaped your music taste?

My first experience was a warehouse rave with DVS1 and after this immersive experience I decided to start DJing and I created my moniker: Axis Alpha. It can be described as a guide through alpha states of mind that one reaches when listening to trippy music. This approach secured me bookings basically in every relatable club or space in Prague and thanks to that I met my second family of like-minded friends and created Weltraum collective together. Recently I got into producing too and hope I will be able to put something out in the future.

- What can we expect from your mix?

In this mix Ive taken slightly different approach and created trippy, 1 hour long session in different style than my usual 4/4 techno. You can expect rise of energy that drops in the middle of the journey only to be recreated again in an immersive finale. Enjoy :)

 His distinctive sound has solidified his presence in Prague's techno scene, where he has performed at renowned clubs such as Ankali, Fuchs2 and Bike Jesus. Additionally, his unique style has garnered international recognition, leading to bookings at clubs in Berlin or Milan. 

Since 2022, he has been a member of Weltraum, a Prague-based collective of friends who share a passion for deep, high-intensity techno music and have been organizing events ever since.

EP 34 - Axis Alpha

Founder of hypnotic techno night Kaava at Kaiku in Helsinki, @paulakoski has played extensively in both Sweden and her native Finland, and more recently has put in some memorable performances in Berlin, carving out a niche for herself with a multifaceted sound that ranges from ambient and experimental to richly layered, dark techno.

Her Patterns of Perception 35 is exemplary of her current direction, and moves compellingly from textured, emotion-laden soundscapes to deep, hypnotic, submersive techno. The opening ambient chapter is Koski's tribute to a defining genre for her: dark minimalism.
