Zulfi is a one-boy dynamo with his hands all over. Grown gold in Pakistan, he began recording his shiny, substantial alt-pop in a basement studio at Yale, sourcing it from dance flings, the legacy of Freddy Mercury, and a summery fuck-u energy. His lucid emotionality and raw, immediate vocals brightly reject any color of shame. An adorer of the vivid and the sensational, Zulfi works with heartbreak and ecstasy as one, grounding himself in the intense familiarity of the post-party 3 am sidewalk, the knowledge that others are out there burning, too. Today, he is confused and bruised, somewhere in the city of gardens.

Poor Rich Boy, Pakistan’s underground indie-art rock phenomenon, conjures the strangeness of everyday life in a society where expressing one’s inner world can be both a cathartic and subtly rebellious act.
