September 2018 will see the launch of Butter Side Up Records with a 12” that embodies the considered club sound of the much loved Leeds and London party. 

It comes from fast rising Idle Hands and Northsouth artist Christian Jay with a remix from The Brane owner Youandewan and offers four cuts of slick electronic house music complete with artwork by Sophie Doulala. 

Butter Side Up is a now eight-year-old party that has carved out its own musical niche. Dealing in tasteful house and techno with a leaning towards breakbeats, garage and real deepness, the night is built on a solid core of residents, with guests like Craig Richards, Nicolas Lutz and Margaret Dygas also having played their intimate events. The label’s outlook will continue in this vein, with a focus on releasing three EPs a year from talented friends and close associates. 

Opener ‘Running’ is dance floor focussed house with nimble rubber drums and slick hits that make you move. Curious synth sounds and rich design make it a timeless track with an air of sci-fi trippiness. ‘Green’ hits a little harder, with drilling sub bass that pulls you in deep as a microcosm of icy hits, alien sounds and synth trails flesh out the futuristic groove. 

Flipside ‘Jupiter’ is a cerebral warm up tune with spacious pads circling round as kinetic little hits, whirs and bass stabs paint a colourful cosmic picture. It’s a micro-groove that really gets under your skin, and is backed up with a remix from Youandewan. A long-time friend of BSU who has made his mark in Berlin with in the know cuts on cult labels like Eclipser Chaser, Voyage and his own The Brane, his version of ‘Green’ is super silky, with lush pads soothing your soul as the muted bassline and bouncy drums set your feet to work.

This EP marks a typically tasteful first instalment from the Butter Side Up boys.

Mid July sees the launch of the new vinyl only Nuances De Nuit imprint with ‘Vol.1’, a four-track various artists package featuring DJ Steaw, Armless Kid, T. Jacques and E.Wan.

Described as ‘’An international project of like minds – For the dancers’’ the new Nuances De Nuit imprint will deliver a cross-section of raw, intricate electronic sounds and inaugurates the imprint here with some esteemed Parisian producers and some up and comers on the flip.

Fresh off the bat of his debut LP on his own Rutilance and a remix of Point G, DJ Steaw delivers ‘Vertigo’, a typically dance floor focused affair from the Parisian fusing raw drums with organ stab sequences and airy pads. Traxx Underground artist Armless Kid then edges into Electro realms with his ‘Untitled’ offering, shining light on crunchy 808 percussion, squelchy acid licks and resonant synth flutters.

Label co-founder T. Jacques turns in ‘Context’ next, fuelled by heavily swung, skippy drums whilst modulating synths, intricate multilayered melodies and pad swells wander within. E.Wan then rounds things out on a deeper tip with ‘Twice’, a perfect closer employing ethereal atmospheric textures and thunderous low-end tones alongside a dusty drum groove.

For our 1st digital release in 2020 we've compiled a very special digital only VA. This is the first of a selection of digital EPs where 100% of the profits will be donated to local charities and organisations who are having a positive impact in our community. 

For this EP all profits will be donated #NextGenMovement. They are a millennial driven organisation which focuses on empowering the youth, fighting against racism and being a voice for Nottingham's community. This is to show our continued support for equality, empowerment and the ongoing need to educate ourselves around the Black Lives Matter movement. 

Most of these tracks have not been released on digital before donated to us from vinyl releases going back to the late 90s and early 2000s. They have brought so much joy and unity to many dancefloors across the world.

A massive thank you to all the artists for getting involved. Safe to say every track would still sound at home on the dancefloor today and we're incredibly grateful for all your support. 

We stand united.
