Being a production line of carefully crafted composition with a meticulous production standard, Calyx & Teebee have delivered yet again. Tantrum Desire – Oblivion feat. Solah

There's a storm on the horizon. For those that know what's up in the bass-heavy music scene, the forthcoming Tantrum Desire album, “Diversified”, is one of the most anticipated releases of 2015. You just need to check recent sets and radio shows from heavy-hitters like Friction, DJ Hype and Drumsound & Bassline Smith to see that cuts from the LP are already making their presence felt.

And now here's “Oblivion”, the single that shows just how monumental the Tantrum Desire sound has become.

This track encapsulates multiple sides to that sound. The intro is pure seduction, with a slick rhythm section of bass plucks, laid-back drumming and piano chords under the light and grace of Solah's vocals. As an edge of percussive hardness creeps into her voice, all of a sudden the energy builds and it's clear there's a switch-up coming. Then the drop delivers that to full capacity, cutting through the smoky atmosphere with high-energy synth hits and the type of call and response between bass and mid-range that mark this out as pure Tantrum Desire.

The breakdown gives us yet another facet, as jungle breaks float in and around the piano and vocals to offer gratitude to the old skool. Then there's a second drop to put it all together, showcasing weighty bass, euphoric high-end and a deftly technical approach to delivering the chord changes.

“Oblivion” is Tantrum Desire in concentrated form, a lethal dose of musicianship, ultra-clean production skills, respect for their D&B heritage and dancefloor hype. This is a killer which is immediately going to find its place across raves and airwaves. Check it, and hold tight because the album “Diversified” has a lot more where that came from.

After announcing the exclusive signing of London Drum & Bass producer Cyantific last year, Viper waste no time is getting him in the rotation.

High Water Mark is the first solo release from Cyantific after he initially featured on the 10 Years Of Viper compilation and sets the standard as a teaser for the first big single due later this year.

Premiered on Frictions BBC Radio 1 show as his ‘Friction Fire” and then by MistaJam the next day, you know big things are coming.

High Water Mark is a classic set starter kicking off with a delicate guitar riff that swiftly switched to a grinding bassline. Then, before you get to comfortable, it’s all gun blazing and the fire’s unleashed into an epic stadium size Drum & Bass monster. Trademark thunderous beats and dial busting energy, this ones not for the faint of heart.

UK Drum & Bass duo, Luke Bugden and Mark Sims, otherwise known as Mob Tactics, are gearing up to release yet another staggering single on the mighty Viper Recordings. 

The first track, ‘Tweakers’, is heaving with signature Mob Tactics destruction, combining obliterating basslines with signature verses from legendary MC, Ryme Tyme, who has been the voice of many D&B classics featuring the likes of Ed Rush & Optical, Dom & Roland, Matrix, Fierce, The Upbeats, Gridlok, Optiv & BTK, Killbox, and more. Menacingly distinct and intoxicatingly catchy, this track will tear apart any dancefloor. 

The second track, ‘Fatal Attraction’, features the inimitably powerful vocal talent of Joanna Syze, lending an almost Evanescence-esque sound to the track. Cinematic production builds suspense right from the start, setting the scene for Joanna’s evocative voice to take the spotlight. Passionate, zealous, and just a bit sinister, ‘Fatal Attraction’ is destined to become the next dark drum & bass anthem. 

With two huge tracks that highlight both the skill and diversity of the duo from England, it’s no surprise Mob Tactics have seen consistent support from names like Andy C, Futurebound, Audio, Friction, Pendulum, DJ Hype, and more – this latest release will surely be no different.

When Tantrum Desire dropped the multi-dimensional “Diversified” LP in 2015, it seemed that we must have finally witnessed every facet of his sound. We'd seen the epic orchestration, the soulful depths, the gut-wrenching nastiness, and the straight up dance-bubblers. But then there were remixes, which took things even further. And now, somehow, there's a new EP which twists the TD style into yet more configurations, and this release gives us a glimpse.

“Ricochet” features the vocals of Laura Bayston, who last linked with Tantrum Desire on the big-room thunderclap of their track “Underground”. Once again, she delivers a soaring, emotive performance that draws us into the music over trip-hoppy atmospheric vibes and a hands-in-the-air chord sequence. And then, under-pinning it all, is a subtle arpeggio, which guides us through the harmonic changes and pulls us upwards until we're dropped into a sea of bass.

That bassline wraps around the tune enveloping it with warmth and power, while a typically-tough Tantrum Desire beat lays out the rhythm for the ravers. That arpeggio moves through the mix, taking us further on the journey into the sound, until extra layers of melody bring the vocal back around again. This is late night, float-away-on-a-cloud music, that will keep dancefloors deep in its thrall.

Bear in mind, this is just one track cut from Tantrum Desire's “Horizons” EP, but, even by itself, it leaves no doubt that we're listening to the product of assured mastery. To create the balance between banger and beauty is something not every producer is capable of, but it's intrinsic to the skyscraper-large TD sound. And you already know the rest of the EP will have even more to reveal.
