Settling star in a room gone still,
motes float soft as a breath-worn will;
pane-glow, slow-glow, silver thin,
day folds quiet and the night leans in.
Floorboard sigh, little prayer of wood,
window’s hush doing what it could;
step by step, like a slow-lit chart,
your star shines, divines the next small part.

Settling star, stay where you are,
far but near as a lantern jar.
Name me by light, teach me your art,
I’ll follow the shine with an open heart.

Phone-face blue with a soft last text,
beads of my heart in the lines you left;
pearl-dot words in a rosary thread,
held to my chest till the blue turns red.
Salt on my lip, little leaf of grace,
mercy’s a map in a commonplace.
No grand roads, only door to door,
shine me one step, not a mile more.

Settling star, settle and stay,
show me the yes in an ordinary day.
Settle my fear, settle my sight,

Salt on the cheek, and the sore grows mild;
sulfur of candle, a tender child.
Mercury river in silver bends,
turns what was heavy into hands.
Not to predict, but to become:
gold from the good we keep undone.

Coat on a hook, little shoes at rest,
kettle’s last breath like a warm held chest;
pebble in pocket remembers a shore,
I let it be pebble, I ask for no more.
Tremor grows quiet where kindness starts,
I count out the calm in quieter hearts;
step by step, through the softest door,
star of the small, be my evermore.

far without leaving, close without fear.

I’ll answer in love, and answer the same.

You don’t have to know the whole river,

Bless the laces, the chalk, the fern, the fireflies,
the kettle’s hymn, the beeswax calm,
