Born & raised in Rochester, NY, Joi's passion for music began while she was young singing in the choir at a young age at Baber A.M.E. Church. As she got older she ventured into playing drums and became a mentee to the sound engineer for the church. 
 
The moment that Joi undoubtedly knew what her career path would be was when the Monroe Community College gospel choir went in the studio to record overdubs for their live recording. Since that defining moment Joi has been engineering, producing and writing music.
 
With an Associate's in Music Recording Technology (FLCC), a Bachelor's in Audio, Arts & Acoustics (CCC) and hands on experience Joi has been blessed to work with many up & coming artists. Gaining the majority of her experience in Chicago, IL, not only did Joi have some great opportunities but she also learned how to develop her work ethic as business minded individual.
 
As an intern for Grammy Award winning engineer Craig Bauer of Hinge studios in Chicago, Joi was able to see hands on how a professional industry recording studio, engineer and assistant engineer (Jeff Breakey) operated. Further developing her craft Joi was able to apply the things she'd learned to her own production team, KTF Musik who worked with a number of local artists in the Chicago area. 
 
After graduating from Columbia College Chicago, Joi spent a summer working in Los Angeles with the Summer Camp of the Recording Academy's Grammy Foundation. Gaining inspiration from this life changing experience, she has continue her journey in the field of engineering, producing and writing. 
 
Joi continues to find inspiration in artist/producer/writer Missy Elliott and credits her as a mentor. Joi remains to be a student to the incomparable creations of Timbaland, Da Internz, Rico Love, Jimmy Douglass and other amazingly talented writers, producers and engineers.

Sherpa Khan was a rap project consisting of poetry, vulgarity, fandom, and finding meaning through improvisation and 2010 GarageBand.

Ryan Johnson and Miles George met in the late fall of 2007 while attending Finger Lakes Community College. Right from the get-go, their musical tastes and styles became immediately entangled together, in which they began writing music together on a small level. Once their friendship and musical ideas grew and meshed, they decided to start writing and recording an EP together. Throughout the span of 2 to 3 years, they had figured out exactly what they wanted as far as their sound and the tracks that would make it to their EP. From that point, RJ and Cu-Cu was born.

After months of playing acoustic sets and many open mic nights around Rochester, Ryan and Miles discussed the possibility of putting a band together. They wanted to capture a similar sound from their EP and bring it to the stage with a bassist and a drummer to serve as a backbone. Luckily, that idea would quickly become a reality. Rochester natives Nick Parker and Chris Murtha completed the group in the late summer of 2011, with Parker on bass guitar and Murtha on drums. After this addition, the possibilities for Ryan's and Miles' songs were endless, and quickly the band started picking up various gigs at Bug Jar, Water Street Music Hall and other venues around Rochester. 

Shortly after a few shows, Ryan and the bandmates settled on the name This Life, a simple statement referring to living in the present and not becoming immersed in the past. The band released their album 'Days Of Old' in spring 2012. After a year of several shows and radio appearances, Nick Parker and Chris Murtha left the group, leaving the dynamic duo to continue where they started. After months of playing acoustic gigs, Ryan and Miles decided to reform the band, bringing in Scotty Dupra on bass and Aaron Davis on drums. They are currently playing all over Rochester and are looking forward to broadening their horizons as a great live band.

Ethos New Music Society is a presenting organization established at the State University of New York at Fredonia. Since 1977, Ethos has been one of the most important advocators of contemporary concert music in Western New York State. Through concerts and workshops by nationally known visiting composers, performance artists, and new music ensembles, as well as concerts featuring student composers and performers, Ethos is able to provide an important cultural service to the university and the surrounding region. Sponsored by the SUNY Fredonia Student Association, Ethos New Music Society is administered and operated by SUNY Fredonia students, under the supervision of its advisor, Dr. Rob Deemer.
