I wrote this track as a tribute to a close friend of mine, DJ Dirty Boy Mike, who passed away. I wanted to incorporate all of the sounds from the 90's that was on the level of what Mike liked to play back then. The track consist of a long intro and a long building breakdown which was always on the forefront of what Mike loved to play.

Micah Paul Lukasewich is a Canadian electronic music composer/producer with his feet firmly planted in underground dance music. After appearing on the scene in 2003, Micah quickly gained momentum by signing his music and remixes to some of the most sought after electronic dance music record labels in the world including Progressive dance's super label: Global Underground. Getting started on Tech-House/Trance Legend Chris Cowie's UG Records, Micah's climb was fast and furious with nearly 65-70 releases and remixes between 2003 and 2010 which gained him thousands of friends and fans from all corners of the world.

Some of Micah's notable releases include: Micah's bootleg turned full release: "Bent - As You Fall (Micah's Swollen Booty Mix)" which was championed by progressive house icon Chris Fortier for use on his well sought after Balance compilation on EQ recordings.The driving and hypnotic remix of Sissy - I See You on Global Underground. Micah's very popular remix of Slacker-Psychout which was played nearly every show for a year by one of dance music's greatest hero's John Digweed.

Micah also became noticed as quite a competent DJ when his Ruhnsong radio show on ProtonRadio.com became one of the most listened to shows of the time, landing him a residence on progressive breaks biggest act Hybrid's prestigious mix hosting website hybridized.org. The Hybridized residence gained Micah instant attention landing Micah DJ show's across the planet including a brief jaunt on as a touring DJ for Global Underground Tours.

It's is safe to say Micah has left his mark on the worlds underground dance music scene, there is nothing stopping Micah's continued rise with multiple forthcoming releases and remixes, expect to hear a lot more from this prolific artist and passionate disc jockey.

GBrown - Open EP [Suffused Music, SMD144]

The 144th release on Suffused Music welcomes GBrown back to the label for his debut EP. The US artist last appeared on the Lithuanian imprint with a remix of 'Run Away' by Dynamic Illusion and Kelly Noland. Released in June it saw the New Orleans resident take the piece into progressive minded territory with great results. Now we see GBrown returning for this much anticipated debut EP entitled 'Open'. 

The release begins with 'Another Perspective', a deeply engaging, percussive number. From it's dubby, mystical beginnings to offset rhythmic structures and drummy clusters it's a joy for both the mind and feet. As the piece picks up momentum, sweeping effects pierce the air, with solemn atmospheres leading into the main break. Here a spoken word narrative takes centre-stage, it's druggy connotations meld perfectly with the psychedelic audio collage which surrounds it, before a smooth build drops the groove for what should be a delight on the dance floor. Great start to the EP.

Continuing with 'Believe by Two Hemispheres' GBrown explores deep atmospheric themes backed by a chugging, floor friendly groove. It's slow methodical build makes for a captivating first act as each electronic accent pushes the vibe higher, culminating with a release of tension as the main break commences. Again vocals play a large role in the tracks centrepiece, with cross cultural chants and spoken words elevating the dramatic appeal, as the beats drop for another magic moment. 

The release concludes with the deep and dark 'This Is Who We Are'. As the most menacing of the three it's rugged character and sinister themes immediately electrify the mind. Amidst a storm of beats and drums again sits an ominous vocal, perfectly processed with psychedelic flair it leads the piece into a deadly break. Perhaps GBrown's most inspired moment as he crafts a tension filled interlude with undulating bass and a wave of vocal effects. Definitely a moment to lose yourself in and with an even more haunting conclusion it rounds out the EP with you wanting more. Three stunning productions from GBrown which make for a perfect debut EP on Suffused Music. Don't miss it.

Happy new year!!! This is the very first Ambient Sessions podcast of 2017!

Welcome to the 28th chapter. This first session in 2017 is mixed by Michiro Sotomura from Japan. 

Bio:

Michihiro’s from Morioka city in Iwate and now living Uenohara city in Yamanashi. Active as a DJ since 1996 in Morioka. As the organizer of 'aquart', his themes center around transformation of heart and body led by sound. His mixing style known as simple yet smooth, using subtle Ambient / Electronica / Downtempo / Techno sound sources, pulsating each note.In 2009, Michihiro graduated from the YogaJaya International Teacher Training at the YJA300 level, And he had taught Hatha Yoga at YogaJaya for six years from 2009 to 2015. And also he have teaching experience more than 1000 hours and he is now a Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher 200E-RYT and YACEP with the Yoga Alliance,and now he organizes "un." that aims the life to connect and harmonize the nature and the human.

Ambient Sessions # 28 - Michihiro Sotomura

I really started with a BT remix of a Tori Amos song which was never released. BT got her to sing a few impromptu refrains to mix and she later said that she made the words up as she sang them in his studio.  The real value in this remix comes after the first 7 minutes when I started hitting her voice with the flanger. its definitely too long but it was almost impossible to finish I was having so much fun. I have a 60 second loop called "breathing" that is based on the last 3 minutes where its just the flanger and tori's breath panning back and forth.

  I am an experienced after-hours DJ from New Orleans, Louisiana in the U.S.A. I once held concurrent residencies in 3 different cities, in 2 different states 4 nights a week. One of those was at Escapades nightclub in Metairie, La. A legendary afterhours that was open for over 30 yrs. Being an after-hours in a city that alcohol is sold 24/7 and no laws forcing clubs to close at a certain time, a normal closing time for a Saturday Night was between 3 and 5 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Other DJ's that worked there when I was there were DJ G Brown, Trent Cantrell, Dirty Boy Mike. Together we created a legend. 

  In 2002 i stopped playing music. I had truly lost all things that i held dear in my life to the addictions of the records, perfection of talent, and the drugs that accompanied them both. In 2005 a massive category 4 hurricane named Katrina robbed me of my record collection. I lost all interest in dance music for many years.

  In 2013 I started collecting music once again. I had to learn the modern equipment. (cdj’s, traktor, buying music on line not the record store) I started playing again and I am reminded of why I started playing music in the first place…LOVE!!! 

  I’ve been collecting some mixes I did over the years. Some were recorded live, some were recorded at home and used as promo’s. All are mixed with records and all are a real performance. I will have new mixes to come.
