I perform some; I can competently play Bass, Guitar, Drums, Trombone, and Piano, possibly vocals if I ever write lyrics... lyrics are dumb.

I focus more on composition of pieces to be performed by other, more dexterous people with more effective recording equipment. Most of my works only exist now in the form of programs synthesized by computer. I hope to happen upon like-minded people who will offer to give flesh to my artificial concepts. 

As for genre... I don't know, I don't know how to categorize music; at least, the traditional idea of categorizing music is wrong. What separates one genre from another is mostly timbre. Remove a guitar voice and add a saxophone, and suddenly a rock piece mysteriously becomes Jazz. Or trade out the saxophone for a slide guitar to get Country. There's a pretty awesome YouTube channel that demonstrates this concept by converting all sorts of different Pop, Prog Rock, and epic movie soundtracks into Bluegrass, simply by playing the melody on a banjo or fiddle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDwnMHFhjLw 

Timbre is a flimsy way to define music, and I don't really work that way. For me, what mostly defines a piece of music is its chord progression and melody. I write a melody and harmonization to be voiced by any instrument, I don't necessarily aim for it to be Rock or Orchestral. For instance, listen to "Outside" and you'll see the traditional method of categorization fail. I mean, what the hell is that, it's got strings, piano, electric bass, acoustic guitar, synthesizers, orchestral percussion, what do you call that? I guess the other possibility of this paragraph could be to say "I don't really know what I'm doing."

If I had my way, I'd categorize music simply by "Secular" or "Sacred." Secular music is meant for background, fun and for dancing. Sacred music is meant for focused listening and reception to the expression of ideas. 

For the sake of understanding though, I tend to float around Rock, Progressive, Jazz, and Orchestral. I like to play with software for video game music, too!
