Russell Woolf's first boss at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Tom Murrell pays tribute to the media legend. Murrell hired Woolf in the early 1990s for the role of Resources Reporter in Karratha. Murrell was Executive Producer of the ABC Rural Department at the time and spoke to ABC Broadcaster Geoff Hutchison.

Dalaroo Metals (ASX:DAL)released initial assay results from the Government funded EIS diamond hole (ASX release 25 October 2021) which confirmed the geological model for the BHT/SEDEX style mineralisation at the Lyons River Project in the Gascoyne region of Western Australia. This hole was funded by a Western Australian Government grant based upon the technical merits of the geological model. Funding of such holes is at the discretion of the Department, and is judged by a panel and was peer reviewed based upon technical merit. Dalaroo met these objectives and was successfully awarded this grant.
 
The hole confirmed the project has suitable host lithologies and the appropriate alteration style of such deposit. Importantly it delivered anomalous lead, zinc and copper values consistent with the style of mineralisation typical of these deposits.

Lyons River Assay Results

Geochemical sampling results at Namban near Moora in the West Australian wheatbelt has identified an anomaly with high levels of platinum group elements, nickel and copper.
PGE values of up to 97ppb and peak anomalous values of 642 ppm Ni and 226 ppm Cu were defined over a 1km strike length. This emerging anomaly, we’re calling Cattady after a local road, remains open along strike. 
Follow up 50 X 50m infill and strike extension geochemical sampling is now underway.
A third drone airborne magnetics survey has identified additional areas of interest adjacent to Metals 260’s Mallory anomaly. 
Systematic geochemical surveys will commence over magnetic intrusive target areas, once grain crops have been harvested. 
There is a lot of interest in this emerging PGE-Ni-Cu province and our results confirm the potential of the region.
This is especially exciting with the recent new Julimar 10 Moz Pd-Pt-Ni-Cu discovery, a strategic deposit of critical ‘green metals’ used in the creation, storage and transport of renewable energy.

Art collector Thomas Murrell of the Fairview Art collection talks about Carnarvon artist May Courtney O'Neill who was a community-based arts leader responsible for setting up many art societies in Western Australia  from the 1960s to the present day. She was a foundation member and President of the Whitfords Art Society which become the Wanneroo Joondalup Art Society - the largest Art Society in Western Australia with more than 200 members and Sir Charles Court as Patron. May O'Neill was also a foundation member of the Watercolour Society of Western Australia, the Pastel Society and founded the Carnarvon Art Society. She survived the bombings on World War Two, left school at 14 and took up watercolour painting while rehabilitating from a car accident that nearly killed her. She has won the Whitford Art Prize for watercolours three times.

This interview is with art collector Thomas Murrell of the Fairview Art collection on the ABC Radio Wheatbelt breakfast program with Michelle Stanley. He talks about the artist who created a sailing scene painted in a Dutch old master’s style by a virtually invisible West Australian women artist who raced against seven-time Olympic medalist Shirley Strickland.

Priscilla Lucy Blight (nee Brown), known as Dixie, was born into the bright light and wide-open spaces of Quairading in Western Australia’s wheatbelt on 12th December 1926 and died of leukemia in Perth on January 24 1990.

Much of her work is scattered throughout Western Australia, but two of her works hang in the Fairview collection including a stunning yellow rose painted in 1975. 

Red Sailing Ships composed in 1989 was one of her last works before she died and the piece most cherished by her daughter, Victoria Anne Ricci (nee Blight). It was specially commissioned for Vicki’s new home and hung in her living room for 12 years.
