Branch To Root, what does that even fucking mean? Its obscure, clumsy and doesn't make sense but at the same time resonates as meaningful. As if you are approaching an answer thats always just around the corner. Branch To Root are searching to catch that answer by asking questions both lyrically and musically and are encouraging the audience to do the same on their intimate live shows. Touring the UK before releasing music publicly was the start of their journey and has resulted in a growing fan base, both online and off, that relate to the lyrical themes and musical references that set the band firmly among their peers. Playing a mixture of Alternative Rock, Grunge and Emo, Branch To Root are a four piece rock band exploring themes of family tragedy, dissolving relationships, self reflection, anxiety and defeat in a cathartic and often bittersweet act that is as many parts therapy as it is performance. Forming in late 2015 as a personal project between friends to create a body of work that calcified their diverse range of interests into something they would enjoy (a kind of secret diary born as a personal mix-tape) Branch To Root found themselves creating something that was bigger than its parts and needed to release the music to a public audience. Developing the musical content and taking risks with the songwriting and story telling aspect of the lyrics prepared the band to face a live audience in 2017 and after two successful local shows took on a 10 date UK tour in the spring of 2017 with friends and peers Pushing Daisies and Dearist. The tour forced a new song, their first to be released publicly, to be written as a direct response to their live shows. “Minus” is a cascading juxtaposition of lyrical introspection and upbeat musicality that puts into perspective the bands journey thus far. 2018 sees the release of their second single, “Best Disasters” and first release from Branch To Root’s impending debut album “Goodbye” (due 2019).

Le travail sonore d'Emmanuel Holterbach vise à révéler la richesse des motifs acoustiques émergeant spontanément du vaste océan de sons dans lequel nous vivons. Captations de fréquences et enregistrements de terrain, pratique non-orthodoxe des instruments de musique, méthodes visant à suspendre le temps par un usage minutieux du son et de l'espace : l'œuvre sonore d'Emmanuel Holterbach pourrait s'apparenter à de la musique, mais est avant tout un outil pour induire les gens en rêverie ou les plonger dans une contemplation active. Il se joue là une révélation des forces poétiques naturellement à l'œuvre dans notre environnement sonore quotidien.
Emmanuel Holterbach a inventé et fabriqué une partie des instruments, microphones et haut-parleurs qu'il utilise. Son travail d'installation sonore in-situ a été présenté depuis 1992 en Europe, au Québec et en Chine. Il joue dans plusieurs groupes : Orbes, eHœCo, ou en solo dans La Chambre Bas-Parlante. Il compose des pièces électroniques et électroacoustiques réalisées à partir de prises de sons d'environnements naturels et industriels, de bruissements de créatures, de vibrations de matériaux et de bâtiments, il compose aussi des pièces pour instruments acoustiques classiques et exotiques.
Depuis 1994, Il présente des conférences sur le thème des arts sonores et de l'écoute active, dans des écoles d'art, bibliothèques ou festivals, et anime régulièrement des ateliers de pratiques du sonore à la Cité de la Musique. Il organise la publication des archives d'Eliane Radigue depuis 2004, joue sa musique électronique en concert et a écrit sa biographie, paru dans la série Portraits Polychromes de l'INA/GRM.
Il est occasionnellement conseiller artistique pour des événements liés à l'art sonore. Il a écrit dans les revues Tacet, Mettray, Tausend Augen, Revue & Corrigée. Il est aussi le fondateur des Productions Fluorescentes, label de production d'objets sonores.
