Long before coming together in 2018 to form the duo ‘alko’, Alaa and Sherif met in a college classroom in Beirut. Their passion for music from a young age as well as the uprising scene in their hometown allowed them to bond on dance floors. 

Upon moving to New York, the two best friends were fascinated by the city’s unique nightlife, which inspired them a few years later to embark on their musical journey. 

With a flavor all their own, alko began to deliver silky smooth sounds influenced by the oriental rhythms of their Middle Eastern roots; the duo’s Burning Man experiences also shaped their growth into playing transcendent sets filled with melodic tunes and enchanting drops.

The duo have played in some of NYC’s hottest venues — like Avant Gardner, House of X, and Gospel — and have ignited dance floors in Turkey, Costa Rica, Mexico, Miami, and Los Angeles.

With recent appearances at SXM Festival and Tithorea’s Labryinto, the pair is clearly on the rise. You can catch them at Coachella later this month and stumble upon them on the playa this summer.

Recorded at John’s last night at The Vagabond Nightclub in Downtown Miami during this year’s Miami Music Week, ‘LIVE IN MIAMI’ features 37 tracks and nearly 4 hours of the very best underground electronic music, spanning across more than two decades.  

Showcasing a wide selection of new and classic records ranging from as far back as 1992 (Secret Knowledge – Sugar Daddy) and 1993 (Nicole – A Small Entrance To A Large Spectrum and Laurent Garnier – Acid Eiffel) Digweed’s latest opus effortlessly takes us through a vast array of sounds, eras and genres from what was an incredibly special night back in March of this year.

From some major reminiscent acid moments of the early 90s right through the years to the upfront house and techno soundscapes of present day, John Digweed blends tracks from some of the most notable producers into one seamless mix that truly captures the spontaneity and vibe of the crowd in one of the world’s coolest, most intimate and unorthodox clubbing destinations.

In 2020, some friends initiated the yearly "Highlands festival". A small private event for +/- 100 people. This event did trigger new inspiration and resulted in the Alter Ego "Famous when Dead".

The name is a tribute to the Playhouse album (2001) that initiated a new and fresh sound from Berlin. Reflecting to me, picking up were I left off and doing what I love the most (get lost in music).
