About Dawn Eden:

Dawn Eden is the author of My Peace I Give You: Healing Sexual Wounds with the Help of the Saints (Ave Maria Press, 2012) and The Thrill of the Chaste: Finding Fulfillment While Keeping Your Clothes On (Thomas Nelson, 2006).
 
Born into a Jewish family in New York City, Dawn lost her faith as a teenager and became agnostic. During her twenties, in the 1990s, she was a rock journalist in New York City, interviewing performers such as Elton John and Brian Wilson. She went on to work on the editorial staff of the New York Post and the Daily News.

When Dawn was thirty-one, she experienced a dramatic conversion to Christianity that ultimately led her to enter the Catholic Church. Her first book, The Thrill of the Chaste, became a surprise hit, published in four languages.
 
In My Peace I Give You, Dawn offers a Catholic spirituality of healing for adult victims of childhood sexual abuse. She has shared its message throughout the United States, as well as in Canada, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and Slovakia. My Peace I Give You has been published in Spanish and Slovak translations, and is soon to be published in Polish.
 
Father James Brent, O.P., Director of the Dominican Friars’ Angelic Warfare Confraternity, wrote in a letter to confraternity members: “For anyone who has suffered from sexual abuse, Dawn’s book is a must read. The testimonies of victims who have read it are powerful testimonies indeed. But in my opinion, anyone who suffers from the wounds of sexual sin in any way whatsoever will also find in this book a powerful aid for healing and renewal.”

The Distinction of Essence and Existence | Prof. Edward Feser

This talk was given as part of the Thomistic Institute Conference "The Spiritual Soul and Contemporary Neuroscience" held at the Angelicum in Rome on 1 December 2018.  Dr. Feser is Associate Professor of Philosophy at Pasadena City College, and has also been a Visiting Assistant Professor at Loyola Marymount University. He received a PhD in philosophy from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He is the author of multiple books, including Philosophy of Mind (A Beginner's Guide), The Last Superstition: A Refutation of the New Atheism, Aquinas (A Beginner's Guide), Scholastic Metaphysics: A Contemporary Introduction, Neo-Scholastic Essays, and Five Proofs for the Existence of God.

Speaker Bio:

Dr. Zena Hitz is a Tutor at St. John's College where she teaches across the liberal arts.  She is interested in defending intellectual activity for its own sake, as against its use for economic or political goals.  Her forthcoming book, Intellectual Life, is rooted in essays that have appeared in First Things, Modern Age, and The Washington Post.  Her scholarly work has focused on the political thought of Plato and Aristotle, especially the question of how law cultivates or fails to cultivate human excellence.  She received an MPhil in Classics from Cambridge and studied Social Thought and Philosophy at the University of Chicago before finishing her PhD in Philosophy at Princeton.

In the Beginning: The Big Bang and the God of Creation | Fr. Thomas Davenport, OP

This event was hosted by the Aquinas Society of Cincinnati and cosponsored by the Thomistic Institute on October 23rd, 2018. It includes performances by Fr. William Goldin, a trained opera singer and theologian, of pieces by  John Cage ("Aria" with "Fontana Mix") and Tchaikovsky. 

About the event: 
This revolution had a soundtrack. The 1960s saw a tremendous change in music, from the highest forms of opera to the popular songs on the radio. What we hear and sing in church and on our radios has been marked by that revolutionary decade. Fr. Goldin’s presentation will both explain and illustrate how the standards of musical beauty and excellence have changed.

Speaker Bio:
Dr. James Madden lives in Atchison with his wife and their children. He is originally from Wisconsin, where he received a B.A. from St. Norbert College, and did his graduate work at Kent State (MA, 1998) and Purdue (Ph.D., 2002). He was awarded the Benedictine College Distinguished Educator of the Year Award in 2006, and he is the author of Mind, Matter, and Nature: A Thomistic Proposal for the Philosophy of Mind (The Catholic University of America Press: 2013)
