Speaker Bio: 

Fr. Gregory Pine, O.P. serves presently as the Assistant Director for Campus Outreach with the Thomistic Institute in Washington, DC. He served previously as an associate pastor at St. Louis Bertrand Church in Louisville, KY where he also taught as an adjunct professor at Bellarmine University. Born and raised near Philadelphia, PA, he attended the Franciscan University of Steubenville, studying mathematics and humanities. Upon graduating, he entered the Order of Preachers in 2010. He was ordained a priest in 2016 and holds an STL from the Dominican House of Studies.

Prof. Edward Feser is Associate Professor of Philosophy at Pasadena City College, and has also been a Visiting Assistant Professor at Loyola Marymount University. He received a PhD in philosophy from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He is the author of books including Philosophy of Mind (A Beginner's Guide), The Last Superstition: A Refutation of the New Atheism, Aquinas (A Beginner's Guide), Scholastic Metaphysics: A Contemporary Introduction, NeoScholastic Essays, Five Proofs for the Existence of God, and By Man Shall His Blood Be Shed: A Catholic Defense of Capital Punishment. Fr. Thomas Joseph White, O.P., is the Director of the Thomistic Institute at the Angelicum and Professor of Theology. He did his doctoral studies at Oxford University. He entered the Order of Preachers in 2003. His research and teaching have focused particularly on topics related to Thomistic metaphysics and Christology as well as Roman Catholic-Reformed ecumenical dialogue. His books include Wisdom in the Face of Modernity: A Study in Thomistic Natural Theology (Sapientia Press, 2009), The Incarnate Lord, A Thomistic Study in Christology (The Catholic University of America Press, 2015) Exodus (Brazos Press, 2016), and The Light of Christ: An Introduction to Catholicism (The Catholic University of America Press, 2017). He is co-editor of the academic journal Nova et Vetera and in 2011 was appointed an ordinary member of the Pontifical Academy of St. Thomas Aquinas. In 2019 Fr. White was named a McDonald Agape Foundation Distinguished Scholar.

Brian T. Carl earned his M.A. in Philosophy from Saint Louis University and his Ph.D. in Philosophy from The Catholic University of America. He is an assistant professor at the Center for Thomistic Studies at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas. His research focuses on Thomistic metaphysics, philosophical theology, cognitive theory, and moral psychology.

This is a submission for the Disquiet Junto 0474: Police Action

I built this track from the excellent collaboration of @daniel-diaz and @forcedamage from Junto 0473. Respect.

Fifths Damage (https://soundcloud.com/daniel-diaz/fifths-damage-21012021-disquiet0473) had a very strong western feel, and also a feeling of being balanced between sentiment and action. We are each trapped in a dynamic equilibrium that gets us through the day, but the ground is shifting and the system is out of balance. The Ostrich is one of the last remaining flightless birds; surely that is not our fate? Make a plan.

I added a rhythm track to what I received, starting with the output form the Logic Drummer in hip-hop mode and then editing the results until they locked to the groove that was there, choosing a nice acoustic kit emulation, and running the track through a Fatso EL7X. Other tools used included a coles 4038, an iphone, Phil Moore's excellent Retro PowerStrip, an A&H board, Valhalla plugins, and Ozone for a quick and dirty mastering pass.

The lyrics came from the feeling above, and from fighting off stockholm syndrome from all the decades since Reagan and Thatcher.

The samples are from the 'crying indian' public service announcement of the last century, and the extinction rebellion of this century.

disquiet0478 collage level math

My audio collage was made by setting up two radio music modules, one playing banks of unfinished tracks I'd done and another filled with audio recorded from public radio. I also set up the radio receiver on a Koma Field Kit to live scan an FM band, whilst the sources were triggered and scrubbed by a complex rats' nest of clock synced LFOs.
I can't really call it a composition as it was me simply setting up a process and documenting the chance encounter. Somewhat fortuitously the Field Kit locked onto a local station broadcasting Covid public service announcements hence the title. Consequently the mix is very rough and unpolished and the chance interplays of radio snippets is best heard on headphones.
