In Current is the debut album of Yasin Hazim, an artist we have had a friendship with for nearly a decade. His penchant for soul and blues music crisscross throughout the album. The rich cascading layers and flowing piano reflect his classical training growing up in Paris, while the deep grooves give a nod to his rave days in California and late nights in New York. Throughout In Current there is a melodic, dreamlike journey that washes over thick, dusty hand drums & cultural seasonings, paying homage to his Algerian and Moroccan heritage. The album is a smooth and mysterious trip downriver into an abyss of timeless harmony. Funky guitar lines, smoky hot jazz horns and enchanting vocals come together to solidify this very personal album from Yasin Hazim that is a true sonic reflection of the world all around him.

This fall Tolga Böyük, one-third of a Turkish-based islandman, went for a short trip to Copenhagen to visit Kenneth Bager. The music wasn't planned at all, but out of the idea of making the soundtracks for a non-existing movie, the two pioneers made an album in no time. 'Re-Arrange Your Face' is the third fragment.

Following the debut Malawi album​ last year, the next series of Beating Heart releases focuses on the vibrant sounds of South Africa, sampling field recordings made by Hugh Tracey back in the 1950s, with kind permission from the International Library of African Music.

Profits from the series will be used to support:​ the Women's Legal Centre, a group of female lawyers striving for gender equality across South Africa, particularly for black women, whose work has had a huge impact on the country's laws, and continues to do so; and the Access Music Project in Grahamstown where students will be able to learn production skills through remixing field recordings from the ILAM ​archive, learning about their heritage in the process.

Thanks to previous​ support, the 'Beating Heart - Malawi' album ​(Rudimental, Kidnap Kid, Clap! Clap!, Luke Vibert, Afriquoi & more) ​h​as​ funded the setting up of a sustainable school feeding program in Lilongwe, now feeding 450 kids once a day.

Following outstanding documents from Dollkraut and The Magic Ray, the record label, run by Jennifer Cardini and Noura Labbani, returns with four singular works of art where Mehmet Aslan takes us into the dream machine, as he channels his Turkish roots with a meditative blend of Middle Eastern infused psychedelics, contemporary blues and folkloric house.

Flip the 12” for “Sunset Ballad”, a near ten-minute epic that more than lives up to its’ name. Soft, delay-laden acoustic guitar passages and yearning electric piano flourishes set the tone, before the Parma-based production duo gradually up the pressure via a shuffling groove, whispering acid lines and quietly bubbling synthesizers. It’s undeniably rich and life affirming, but best appreciated while lying flat on your back. 

Dirty Bolas will be featured on the duo’s second album 'Rivea Corymbosa', which is slated for release in the final quarter of 2016. For now, you’ll have to make do with these two slices of seductive, sun-bright brilliance.

Walking through the empty fields he cast his sight towards the loch in the distance, it was a radiant blue beneath the glimmering sun and upon the water were soft white boats which could barely be seen but for their flickering sails and pale silhouettes. He was not yet neither here or there, hopefully by the end of his hike he might find himself closer to paradise than he was in the present. The escape had been a long time coming, the prison walls had been tall and oppressive for far too long. Now he was free.
