The Disco Rogues are back on Paper with a follow up release to their excellent Funk Moves and this sophomore E.P. If late night jacking and chugging dance floor action is your thing, step this way.

'Deep Point' is a murky and mucky slice of after-hours house music that has a locked down, heavy groove that is perfect for setting the scene or slowing things down when it's getting twisted.

'IF' is a cinematic hazy highlight that is hypnotic, psychedelic and aimed at the cosmos. Swirling synths and pads wrap around a hook synth stab to create something between 90s Balearica and a lost John Hughes soundtrack.

'Let It All Go' keeps it deep and and trippy with layered synths, guitars, pads and more to create a journey into the outer reaches of above and beyond. What a trip!

'You've Got The' closes off the package and sits perfectly into that 'classic Paper' deep house sound (yeah, we did it before it was all man bags and beards!). There are stubby chords, chopped up guitars, rolling bass and snappy percussion with just a hint of disco peppered over the top to keep things sweet.  This beauty will test the bass bins early doors and fill the floor while it's at it.

Producer, DJ, fervent music aficionado, and record collector Steve Mill has honed a distinctive sound that resonates across dancefloors. Born in Greece and dividing his time between Berlin, London, and Thessaloniki, Steve Mill weaves his rich cultural heritage into evocative melodies and infectious rhythms.

The God Given EP released 12th May on Dirt Crew Recordings showcases Steve Mill’s musical talent and hints at the enormous music collection of which he is able to dip into. It’s the follow up to his great label debut “Love Attack EP” from last year.

The title track, God Given featuring Bongani Mehlomakhulu comes out of the traps as a fully formed Balearic stomper. Dreamy ice-cream-van marimbas enter the fray and deep tribal bass completes the audioscape, setting the scene perfectly for Bongani’s vocals. Thought-provoking lyrics from the viewpoint of someone born without a silver spoon in their mouth but still with the upbeat optimism to succeed in life. “Positive mindset brings a change of flavour / Overcoming challenges helps you stay centred.” Wise words indeed from this poolside masterpiece.

Steve Mill explains: Working with Bongani was super easy and uncomplicated. I first heard his work on a Shur-I-Kan mix. I immediately loved his voice and powerful lyrics. Kid Fonque introduced us, and we started chatting. When I sent him the instrumental, I asked him to write lyrics about the struggle of an unprivileged life. A few days later, God Given was ready.

Next up is Copenhagen Ride - a deep house drumline washed in broad watercolour strokes of warm, laid-back synths. Think of a hazy dusk; daytime giving way to the first twinkling lights of the city as afternoon becomes evening.

Steve Mill gives us the lowdown: This is a tribute track to a holiday with one of my best friends in Copenhagen a few years ago. We’d blast some amazing deep house tunes in the car and travel around the city and the suburbs. The warm sounds inspired this super deep track that came out so easily, having that picture in my mind. The minimal perfection of the city would always inspire me.

Dye the Bip takes us from dusk and onto the dancefloor. This track has an infectiously catchy hook line that will stay in your head way after you return home from the club.

Steve Mill recalls: Dye The Bip came to me one morning. The lead was inspired by the Krystal Klear sound: Easy in the ear, yet catchy and meaningful. The pads and the arpeggio based bassline followed. Some big reverbs on the snare drum compliment the whole package of the track. I had a tune that you can hum and that was my goal from the start!

Rafael Cohen aka Los Latidos was born in Mexico City to Guatemalan parents. He grew up in the DC punk scene, and released records on Dischord and Touch and Go. He has also played and recorded with jazz legend Anthony Braxton. 

Currently he tours the world and writes songs as a member of Warp Records mainstays !!! and has written and recorded a collection of more intimate songs in Spanish under the name Las Palabras.

This is his second release as Los Latidos and his first for Throne of Blood. His previous release, on Jun Records was described as “a feast of acid squelches, breakbeats and house kicks” by Resident Advisor. “Please Believe Me” is built on the same foundations but expands the palate somewhat with acoustic guitars and field recordings. 

The vibe is warm and hypnotic, recalling the breezy vibes of old school Throne of Blood artists Cosmic Kids. With three jams that range from low slung acid grooves to gently jacking house underpinned by a hands in the air bassline, Los Latidos has delivered a soundtrack to summer dusks and dawns.

With each successive volume of Throne of Blood’s MOON ROCK compilations, the New York label attains a deeper appreciation of electronic music’s most chakra-massaging tendencies, participating in a communal dialogue devoted to a new dynamic beyond the confines of the dance floor.

Sharing a spiritual and aesthetic kinship with a burgeoning community of psychonauts and astral voyagers like Multi Culti, Emotional Response’s Scheißen series, Andras Fox’s A.R.T. Wilson project, MOON ROCK VOLUME 3 casts a wide net, folding in crystalline contributions from label veterans like Steve Moore, Ulysses, Curses, Luv*Jam, Anti Hero (aka Chris McIntyre from Jokers of the Scene), Clean Plate (aka Pink Skull), Tempelhof, and Pittsburgh Track Authority, as well as expansive contributions from friends like Stone’s Throw affiliate Chrome Canyon, LA mainstays Kisses and Anzano, testpressing.org’s Apiento & Co., CCC’s Night Plane, Peacefeast mailman Tim Love Lee, and Hivern Discs’s C.P.I.

Pushing beyond the terrain so capably explored in Volumes 1 and 2, MOON ROCK VOLUME 3 begins in a familiar place with cyclical arpeggios and orchestration deeply indebted to Brian Eno. An interlude of reverb-drenched percussion and harp segues into cinematic synths and a series of selections rooted in the low slung rhythms of chillout. Fluctuations in intensity slowly give way to a darker tone as more unnerving drones and atmospheres close out this fifteen track selection.

As always, MOON ROCK is music for comedowns, meditation retreats, and adventures beyond the Ultraworld. Tune in and space out...

"Weir" from Pale Ravine, one of the tracks that will for first time appear on vinyl through the 2016, 2xLP edition of the now classic debut album by Deaf Center, originally released on Type records in 2005. Coming this october on Miasmah

‘Pale Ravine’ is the debut full-length realization of Erik K Skodvin and Otto A Totland under the Deaf Center moniker. More recently known for solo recordings under their own names on the Sonic Pieces label. The album, back then made in their mid 20ies, is an other-wordly sound collagé to Norwegian nature, theatricality and old silent films. The two musicians have looked deep into their own family histories to piece together a dusty and nostalgic epic, blending elements of classical and electronic music with an array of field recordings and a lot of fog.
