Two years ago, 87FEI87 released its first compilation, a six-track, unmixed, unmastered piece of shit meant for jamming exclusively in the confines of Beijing taxis. And jam our drivers did. Taxeee Tapes Vol. 1 was instantly legendary, the only topic of discussion in cabdriver cafeterias from Chongwenmen to Xinyuanli and beyond. This automobile audio revolution continued in 2013 with Taxeee Tapes Vol. 2, eight tracks of trunk-bumpin’ business endorsed by the pulpit of private transportation itself: FM 103.9 Beijing Traffic Radio. 

Sadly, those days are behind us. The once-dominant old-skool Volkswagen Jetta has been superseded by the high-tech Hyundai Elantra, and tape decks are now a rare sight in this smoggy city. In one last defiant gesture, 87FEI87 has summoned the best electronic musicians from all over China for the third and final installation of our seminal series. 

Taxeee Tapes Vol. 3: Horsepower features a whopping 20 tracks, the swankiest set of beats our Beijing streets have ever seen.* From the warzone aerobics of Howie Lee and the trumpet crunk of DzM to the analog funkfuckery of Meng Qi and the prophetic electro of Noise&Noise, there’s something to tickle all kinds of tush. We aren’t leaving any booties behind on this one.

服务《Service》这张专辑开始于2013年。
有天我收到了一封邮件，来自华山唱片公司创办人Raphael Valensi发来的。  他邀请我去上海演出和录音。几个星期以后我坐火车到上海，那天晚上的演出有：噪音电子Huashan Unit 还有DJ Drunk Munk。我们一同在Shelter演出。然后第二天开始录音。那大部分音乐都是在火车上写的所以录音的时候比较新鲜的感觉。一共录完了两首歌，还有六首remix；都是来自上海的音乐人做的。

第一首歌叫《奇怪的地方》。这首歌的歌词是关于我理解的一个漫画。他是北京艺术家岳明的一幅作品。这首音乐里有波萨诺瓦和加麦兰音乐的采样，还有贝斯和琵琶。
第二首歌家《少》。 这首歌是关于尊重别人，与他人友好共建和谐美好交通遵守模式。这首歌里有琵琶和贝斯，还有电子节奏，合成器旋律和改编的韩国流行音乐人声。 


thruoutin - Service
In its earliest infancy the release Service started one afternoon in 2013 when I received an email from Huashan Records founder, Raphael Valensi.  He invited me to come down to Shanghai and play a monthly series called  “Let’s get Naked and Listen to a Bunch of Drones”. While there he offered to record a couple songs of my own.  A few weeks later got on a train and performed at Shelter that night with his tech noise group, Huashan Unit and DJ Drunk Monk.  The next day we began recording in his home studio.  The majority of the content was written while on the train so everything was still quite fresh when we went to record.  We did two songs in total with six remixes which were all done by Shanghai based artists.
   
The first track Qiguai de difang, is a loose interpretation of a comic by Beijing visual artist, Yue Ming.  Here an individual is met by a delivery man on a cold and windy afternoon at a bizarre beach.  The music revolves around boss nova and gamelan samples with pipa and bass guitar.  The second song Shao has a few verses that rotate over and over about personal respect, satisfaction and modes of transportation.  The pipa and bass guitar combo return and are met by beats, synths and manipulated k-pop vocals.

This release is compiled of field recordings taken from the city of Jiayuguan, Gansu Province, China on August 20th, 2013. The recordings were later set to sounds in Beijing during the 2014 Chinese New Year. The album title in Chinese characters are those of the city's name, however the English titles have been intentionally translated character by character to sound a little odd and represent the sometimes, slightly out of place feeling one can get from visiting a new place for the first time. The four tracks are titled using a single word in both languages that have significance with the content of the song. 

The album began as a concept while traveling to perform in the Silk Road · Jiayuguan Great Wall International Music Festival in order to capture the feeling of the city and it's sounds.

Over the span of 2014-2016 Pittsburgh based net label, Aud-Art, arranged a remix project to reissue pieces submitted by producers from around the world including Johnny Jitters (US), Escaping Animals (AUS), Ilkae (CA), 
Jana Sleep (SE) illl (SK) and Eigenheimer (NL). The almost linear, ambient characteristic of the 4 track EP was lifted to a new level that incorporates new rhythmic and percussive ideas while simultaneously utilizing the original content. This project, curated by Johnny Jitters himself, has been a work in progress and now is finally available on Aud-Art. 

2014-2016年美国匹兹堡数字唱片公司Aud-Art准备把《嘉峪关》这张专辑的歌曲全部由全新的制作人做remix。这些来自各个国家的音乐制作人比如Johnny Jitters (美国), Escaping Animals (澳洲), illl,(斯洛伐克), Ilkae (加拿大), Jana Sleep (瑞典) 与 Eigenheimer (荷兰)。原来的专辑比较线性感和氛围但是remix版本给人从新耳目一新的感觉。这remix的部分是Aud-Art创办人, Johnny Jitters策展的。

About the Artist 关于艺人: 
American born electronic producer and multi-instrumentalist, thruoutin, has been based in China since 2009. His work varies from project to project, but often revolves around the combining of different genres and with a focus on organic and digital sounds. He has brought his music to Canada, Taiwan, South Korea and various cities in the US and throughout mainland China. Besides self-releases, thruoutin has also been featured on such labels as Jingweir (Beijing), Nasty Wizard Recordings (Beijing), 87Fei87 (Beijing), Huashan (Shanghai), LABAREDA (Lisbon), Senzu Collective (North Hollywood) and Aud-Art (Pittsburgh).
