Æ Recordings – the infamous sublabel of Thule Records was responsible for some of the finest techno releases from Iceland in the early 2000s. With the motherlabel on full throttle it was ideal to revive the enigmatic junior label as well. The label was known for bringing in fresh winds into the scene – and this release doesn‘t stray away from the concept at all. 

The veteran Icelandic producer Cold has been missing from the scene since his legendary release Strobe Light Network in 1995 – a track that kickstarted the Thule franchise and was at one point the closing track for the epic Love Parade festival in Berlin. After more than 20 years of hiatus, we are happy to announce that he is back – and with a vengeance. Exiles EP is a hard-hitter & should be essential for DJs who aren‘t afraid to venture into the unknown.

Æ Recordings/Thule Records is considered by many to be a pioneers in the field of dub-influenced techno music and was a starting point for many of Iceland‘s most renowned electronic musicians.

Following their appearance on Dimensions Recordings’ debut release, the three part compilation ‘An Introduction’, with the twisted ‘Crosstalk’, London Modular Alliance step up to the plate with their first full EP for the label.  

The ‘Hands & Brains EP’ further demonstrates the skills that the London based trio are becoming renowned for.  As the minds behind the fantastic London Modular store in London specialising in modular equipment, often supplied to a host of well known musician, it’s unsurprising to hear that the guys are serious gear heads, what is surprising is the quality and consistency of their growing output! 

Across four tracks the London Modular Alliance team demonstrate their complete mastery of the electro form with four varied cuts.  From the breaky, bubbling, modern acid of lead track, ‘Hands & Brains’ to the Drexciyan underwater inspirations of the closing track, ‘Forbidden’ and the brooding machine drone of ‘I Settled for Her Leftovers’,  it’s clear that the future of the genre belongs to London Modular Alliance and it’s in very safe hands…

Oculus is one of the titans of the Icelandic techno scene and has been one of its key foundations for over a decade. His live shows have captivated the audience with his exemplarary mixture of deep, innovative and hypnotic techno. His productions skills are unquestionable and we‘re excited to bring you four techno anthems ready to conquer the late night dancefloors.    

Nostalgia is a nod to the older days. Subtle blend of hypnotic mysticism and Detroit-style techno – a instant afterhours anthem! Rydgad is a handy tool for the DJs who love to throw a little swag to their crowd. Its minimal, but still offers a lot of little tricks to make the room work. Morph gets dark and twisted - with Oculus‘s hypnotic voice reassuring the listener in his native tongue that the he is the all-seeing eye of the Icelandic techno scene. The EP ends with the minimalistic mind-twister of „Flod“ – completing the first odyssey of Æ Recordings LTD.

Next in store for the prestigious Icelandic label AE Recordings is a collaboration between well-known Icelandic & Russian artists. The Moscow legend Anton Kubikov delivers a beautiful & haunting minimal techno track, bound to encapsulate the essence of Russian winter - while SCSI-9 offers a dubby and a hypnotic techno anthem. The Icelandic regulars of the label bring their goods to the table. The ever-intriguing collaboration of Ohm & Octal Industries never ceases to disappoint - and their contribution is an intriguing atmospheric deep house track, ideal for home-listening as well for the late-night rooms. The Thule Records label boss Thor offers a musical equivalent of a megafauna with his track - heavy hitting dub chords, mindbending delays & that little extra magic that we all love from the Icelandic god of thunder.
