I discovered Frankie Knuckles through his music, one that was, gentle, lush with a subdued, understated power that rocked many a dancefloor.
I had the privilege to hear him once in the heyday of his legendary residency at Sound Factory Bar in New York. I was submerged, sonically and emotionally by the beauty of the music I heard that night. I remember very clearly saying to myself that this would be impossible to ever equal.
That was 20 years ago, and I never got to hear this magic combination again.

I got to meet Frankie a few times, and he was always like his music, gentle, humble,   yet naturally imposing

I've put together here some of my favorite music from him. So that his legacy can keep on inspiring other people.

Rest in peace, Frankie, may your music keep on moving people eternally

Reginald Omas Mamode IV Mix on Gilles Peterson Worldwide (GPWW 871)

Tom B.&#8216;s seductive &#8220;Lovely Matilda&#8221; is the seventh release coming from the Fukai label, backed with two remixes by German new school heroes Marcapasos and Ron Flatter Remix.

&#8220;Lovely Matilda&#8221; sees Leipzig based Tom B. at his smoothest, with a slow burning melodic groove characterised by a rounded bassline and funk-filled percussion. With no rough edges, it&#8217;s a tune that provides warmth and paired with some clever vocal snippets, makes for a great listening and dancing experience.

The Marcapasos remix retains much of the original smooth qualities, but the added layers of melody are more prominent and the bassline has been reworked. The drops are a bit more dramatic and extended. All combined, Marcapasos&#8217; respectful additions create an essential counterpart to the original.

Ron Flatter closes the EP with a second remix cut. Vocal snippets and a distinctly Garage use of melodies sit alongside a swinging groove while moody bass adds considerable weight. Incredibly cool sounding, it&#8217;s a distinctive closer to an already accomplished EP.

Fukai means &#8216;deep&#8217; in Japanese and four releases in, the label is staying true to its MO at the same time as offering up a fine selection of carefully hand picked remixers that add plenty to each package.

Tom B. - Lovely Matilda (Original Mix)

Stefano Noferini teams up with Charles Ramirez in order to re-vamp Charles&#8217; &#8220;Insane&#8221;, and apart from Stefano&#8217;s re-edit we are treated to a very tasty 2014 version of the track with sly bass, dubbed-out sensibilities and heavy use of the haunting vocal. 

Stefano also delivers a Dub mix which sees everything getting beefed up, with layers of effects and distressed noises taking the helm. The bubbling sub bass never lets up and discordant stabs add the necessary class. The last remix comes from Luca M and JUST2, and the boys employ a grinding rhythm section with busy percussion and lots of boomy low end, all calming down only for the spacious breakdown.

Stefano Noferini & Charles Ramirez - Insane (Stefano Noferini Dub Mix) [Deeperfect]

Tom Kingston and Joe Wilson are Solomon Grey. Making infectiously ambient alternative electronic music, they blur the lines between programmed production and live sounds, with forthcoming single ‘Electric Baby’ being a perfect example. Each one will attempt to capture the feeling and direction of the night, giving those who were there a reminder of the events they experienced while giving those who were not present a fragmented distortion of what they missed.
